From  its home at Consett in England's North West Durham
Introducing
Introducing
The closure of the steelworks at Consett in 1980 probably played a large part in this local history society being formed. A former steelworker who had always had a great interest in the history of the area and members of the public with similar views, got together and thus the Derwentdale Local History Society came into being in 1991.
Ten years on, the society has members from Somerset in the south of England to Glasgow in Scotland with an increasing interest  being shown by people overseas who have some past links with the area.
By means of a quarterly newsletter, members are kept informed of the society's news and activities and in addition, 'away members' who are unable to attend meetings contribute to a friendly, conversational type newsletter.
North West Durham which includes the beautiful Derwent Valley, is the area covered by this society with regular meetings being held at the former steel town of Consett and new members are always welcome.
