Counter Surfing Remedy

I have a method for stopping counter surfing which works effectively. At the risk of a wrist slap, which I will deserve, I will share it with you. Do this ONLY when you are home!

Put something absolutely delectable on your counter, WELL back from the edge. Take four or five strips of duct tape, about 6 to 12 inches long, and place them sticky side UP between the booty and the edge of the counter. and leave the room but stay within ear shot.

As soon as you hear your dog trying to rid themselves of the duct tape, ride in on your white horse and help them out, comforting them. Then, take a fly swatter and beat the heck out of that bad bad counter and give it glory be! Yell at that nasty counter and tell it how no self respecting counter could do such a thing to your dog. Be loud and be emphatic and do it in sight of your dog. Then put out more strips of duct tape to replace the ruined ones. Then, calmly take your dog out of the room and give them lots of loving and reinforcement. Again stay within ear shot and repeat the same procedure, if necessary. It may very well not be necessary, although you may have to keep duct tape out for a while. Do not leave the duct tape out when you aren't home and paying attention because your dog can get very upset if you are not there to free it immediately!

This procedure has also been known to work with hole digging in the yard, but then you should beat that bad bad hole with a broom or a shovel or a rake. Again use that loud punishing voice at that bad bad hole!

You'll be ok, but don't look at yourself in the mirror for a couple of hours so you don't blush!
