(sarcasm)Power to the Free Servers!(/sarcasm)
Free servers. You love to yell at them. You also have the hard time searching for one. After you read this article, you'll find out that there is no such thing as a good free server, unless you're lucky. This list also includes hotlinking crap. Note that this is also a table. The crap is below:
| Provider |
What you get |
Bandwidth |
Hotlinking |
Problems |
Rating |
| Crosswinds |
FTP. That's it. |
Unlimited |
They used to allow it to some like EzBoard, but now they've stopped. |
Control Panel basically invisible when you log in. In fact, last time I checked it didn't allow me to log in. Whatever. Did I mention popups as well? |
8/10 |
| Tripod |
FTP, SSI, and best of all-CGI! |
50 MB. You can buy more which is a good thing. |
They've stopped all together. Even GIFs. |
No hotlinking(Did I say this already?), slow and retarded MS Frontpage Server. Forget that though. Microsoft wants to take over the world anyway. Ads. |
8/10 |
| Angelfire |
FTP. (sarcasm)WOO HOO! ONLY FTP! WOO HOO!(/sarcasm) |
50 MB. You can buy more which is a good thing. |
They've stopped all together. Even GIFs(Murders the President of Lycos). |
No hotlinking! ADS! Tripod and Angelfire are BOTH Lycos sites AND have Angelfire has less features than Tripod. Go figure. |
7/10 |
Netfirms |
CGI, FTP, and PERL. You can run iB on this baby too! In fact, that's all it's good for! |
25 MB? 100MB? Who knows? |
Yes, and that's also what it's good for. |
Sounds good? Guess what? WRONG! They have a Titanic sized banner ad and slow servers. Sounds bad? I thought so. |
7/10 |
| Gizba |
Who knows?? |
500MB |
Yes, and that's what it's good for. |
It messes up your computer. It replaces your site with ads if you don't update within 14 days. And the problems with Gizba stack up like IHOP pancakes. |
6/10 |
There you go. Conclusion: all free servers suck. There are many more, and they also all suck and have horrible problems. That's why i'm getting my own server, with anything I want. CGI, .htaccess, PHP4, PERL5, mySQL, pgSQL, msSQL, XML, IHTML, SSI, FTP, Coldfusion(what is this anyway speaking of Coldfusion), and much more.
Note: I'll update this article when I can.
