OUR CUSTOMER: Costing £600 a bottle (£21 a nip), only 400 bottles of the oldest and rarest vintage 1959 Glen Moray malt whisky from Glenmorangie plc. were produced. OUR TASK: For such a premium product it was therefore essential that the standard of the packaging reflected its exclusive quality for connoisseurs and collectors. The bottles are packaged in a specially designed wooden case and come with an additional miniature, enabling purchasers to taste the whisky without having to open the main bottle. Each bottle and miniature is numbered and each main bottle carries the handwritten signature of the Glen Moray distillery manager Ed Dodson. The main body labels are applied by wet glue process, but the shoulder labels and miniature labels are self-adhesive. Label manufacturer Labelgraphics was given samples of the main labels and asked to supply self-adhesive ones to match. OUR SOLUTION: The self-adhesive labels were printed by rotary letterpress on a vellum stock in three colours, with an additional background tint, and then hot foil stamped. A matt duct varnish was added by Labelgraphics to give the right type of finish - simulating an aged label. The labels were applied by hand. "We knew we could leave it to them and they would deliver what we required," commented Craig Taylor of Glenmorangie. "It was so important that we got it right, we were very pleased with the end result." |
