Jake:Dream Analysis

Book #6, Page 126: " I was the tiger. Tom was my prey.

We were in the dark, deep woods, and I was hunting him with all my tiger skill. He was stumbling and noisy and weak.

I knew I could take him.

At last, too tired to run any further, Tom fell. He waited, helpless, while I gathered the power of my tiger body and prepared to leap...

And then, I was no longer the tiger. I was my own prey. I watched through eyes wide with terror as the tiger sprang..."

Analysis: This is a very complex dream, if you recall the situation Jake was in(he had been infested by Tom's yeerk). The idea of him being the tiger and stalking someone he cared about shows how he feared the yeerk using his own body to lash out against the people he cared about. The difficult part of the interpretation is when he switches places, which could mean any number of things. The first is that he turned from predator to prey-instead of him fighting yeerks, the yeerk had taken over him. Another idea, possibly the reason Tom in particular is the person he's stalking, is that Jake is sympathizing with Tom, knowing exactly what he was going through and being all the more deternimed to set him free. However the time could come when he would have to stike him down anyway(the idea behind #31). Another motif, one more involving Jake's subconscious, is that he is also identifying with the yeerk--once a faceless enemy, Jake now percieves him as a "person" in his own right, the same person he would have to kill, and here there is an obvious role reversal as Jake is at the mercy of the Yeerk instead of the other way around.

Book #26, Prologue:(I'm not gonna type this one out, it's too long, but I'll sum it up.) Jake is remembering when he was infested, and the Yeerk going through the fugue. When the Yeerk dies, Jake is able to see part of the space-time configuration, and Crayak(the big red eye) is able to see him and utter one word: Soon. Only after Crayak speaks is Jake able to awaken from the one dream that has persisted during his time as an Animorph.

Analysis: The beginning of this dream consists mainly of Jake's memory of the Yeerk dying of Kandrona starvation. However, one thing is added to this dream that isn't mentioned in book #6. In this, Crayak says "soon." This foreshadows the rest of Jake's encounters with Crayak. Also, Jake mentions that the Crayak dream is the only dream that continues to return, while the other nightmares of battles fade away. This could be taken to mean that while the Yeerks may someday disappear, Crayak will remain to terrorize Jake.

Book #31, Pages 117-120:(Okay, sorry, but no way am I typing up an entire chapter for a one paragraph analysis. Go look it up and read it!)

Analysis: Jake as a sergeant leading his troops is most likely a comparison with him leading the Animorphs. The fact that he mentions how little ammo he has and states "If the Germans came it would be over fast," is probably a reference to the fact there are only six Animorphs, and if the Yeerks found out about them, they wouldn't last long. Matthews stabbing Jake is an obvious comparison with Tom, seeing as Tom's view about war seemed to be mainly that you win however you have to, and there was emphasis on the Nazi dagger because if you remember, that was what Tom wanted to keep while Jake wanted the medals, making Tom say, "That's perfect, you can sit and think about honor and bravery and I get the thing that gets the job done." This dream is probably Jake's subconscious telling him, Hey, you can feel sorry for the enemy and everything, that's nice, but don't forget that they won't hesitate to stab you if they get the chance."
