Problems in Russia

Russia is a very large country in northern Asia, which broke away from the communist party in January 1, 1992. Russia went on to develop a democratic style government similar to that of the US. Always with change we see problems, which follow. I have been able to single out and analyze some of them.

One major problem in Russia today is the crime. The Russian Mafia plays a big role in criminal acts in Russia. Specializing in killing and organized crime, the Russian Mafia are experts at what they do and they are feared for it. "Valery A. Korablinov's green Jeep Cherokee had just pulled away from his country house near Moscow on November 1 when two men jumped from behind a fence and opened fire, killing him and critically wounding his driver. Another contract hit on a Russian businessman? Yes with one difference. Korablinov, 57, was the president of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf. In the past two years, four people associated with his group have been gunned down in what police say is a Mafia battle to control its finances." The previous quote is from the December 9, 1996, of BusinessWeek magazine, It is an example of the Mafia’s criminal activities. These gangsters are all very involved with Black Market. At shipping ports where exchanges take place, the police can do little more than watch. They know that any interference on their part would result in being beat-up. The money made from these types of deals is usually smuggled out of Russia and easily deposited in Switzerland banks. Millions of dollars has accumulated there. All this money should have been paid in taxes to the government and now without this money the government can not provide necessary aid to the citizens and poor.

There are some extreme poverty issues in Russia where people lack proper education, shelter, and clean water / food. Before the break-up of the Soviet Union, while the Soviet Union was still under communism, the economy was falling and prices for very scarce food were sky rocketing. At the same time unemployment rates were also soaring. These problems set up for a very weak Russia today and they still have not been solved. To do so, they need to start making some small changes and from there start growing until there is no longer is a problem.

In Russia, politics are a grave problem. Following the official breakup on January 1, 1992, the citizens of Russia were given a limited glimpse of what the western world is like. As a result of the breakup of the USSR, Russia lost a fair amount of resources, and people. Their military structure had also come apart. People living within Russia's vast borders were of a different nationality beside Russian. Ranging from negotiating the ownership of warheads to the territorial borders, Russian politics has become different. The older Communist system has been overhauled to introduce certain new freedoms into peoples' lives. Few people appreciated this at first. Most people had become used to the Communist system. When the new system was introduced, some changes were not ok to some people. Most people had been promised a roof over their head, and food. These basic needs were mostly supplied, but with the new system, these were not guaranteed. This fact single-handedly caused an increase in crime. Patriots did not know who they were anymore. With the democratic changes, many people were left unhappy. The old government had a large amount of censorship. The government had been able to control all media. People were then overwhelmed with news from the outside world that they had never been informed about. It seems that the hardworking people are being rewarded, and those who do not are no longer succeeding.

Russia is a relatively new country and it still very young. This country is definitely on an up trend and it will continue to get better. All problems in Russia are fixable and they will be fixed in the future. This country has taken a giant leap away from communism and this will take some getting used to.
