Silent Presence
She met him by a twist of fate Seeking after oblivion, She never managed to explain What she liked about that man.
She thought of him at her leisure, She thought of him at her work, Sharing his frankness and candour, He occupied all her thoughts.
Flowing like a crystal blue river Into the unbounded sea, His speech, so honest and sincere, Filled her heart with hope and peace.
His words, so simple and good-natured, Set her at ease before long, She forgot he was a stranger Handing the key to her soul.
Protecting her like an angel, He gave her his snow-white wings, And made her see all the splendour Of a withered autumn leaf.
He lived in a distant country Thousands of miles from her place, But she discerned his eyes and lips Through the mist of loneliness.
She shedded tears waiting for him, She whispered his tender words, But when she met him in her dreams His silent presence soothed her.
