In your Room

I opened the door with my key,
Slipping into a dark room,
I could find by feeling the switch
Slightly lighted by the moon.

I sat down in your easy-chair,
Looking for your magazine,
But I couldn't find it anywhere,
So I poured myself some tea.

I slowly moved to the window,
And looked out into the dark,
I could not see a living soul,
Not a single couple in the park!

I turned back and looked at the clock,
It was long after midnight,
I glanced at the gloomy closed door,
Sat down and gave a deep sigh.

I called your friends but they didn't know
How to explain your delay,
I spent a few hours on the phone,
But my attempts were in vain.

I did not know where you could be,
It was striking 4 a.m.
When it suddenly occured to me
That you wouldn't come back again.
