City Park and General P.G.T Beauregard
His island is smaller and the floral clock is gone. How much longer will he ride?
Acquaint yourself with the Gerneral. He was in the "big time" until Lee or Jefferson had had enough of the Creole Let's start with Fort Sumter. Site One Site Two Site Three Site Four Please notice the different "pens" used in these write ups. History still takes sides after so many years. The Civil War is still being fought.
Do.
The lagoons were dug by the CCC in the Depression. The museum, to the right, above, has had an Egyption Pharaoh visit. I knew it as The Delgado Museum. The place is "high brow" and accessible to all. It is now free. They got stuff, cher.
Sam Barthe School, or was. Mike B. went there. It was near the bamboo jungle.
I don't care what you call it. It is City Park Stadium, also built in the Deression. I saw Eric Clapton there. The Beatles played here for 5 buck tickets in 1964.
I was there in the park when it was given 92,ooo bucks for the completion of restorations to the Carousel. Thank your Fox Affiliates. It is magical.
So is the little train. Man the memories flow and not just from my childhood. I've taken my grandson on that sucker. I enjoyed it more, maybe.
It does a pretty good loop.
Here is where the Today Show, NBC, did some mornings back in the late 50's. We watched it on our new TV bought at Kirshman's. Remember the monkey?
Amusement games and canoe rentals were handled out of this building. Bikes were rented down the way. Great fun.
The Lagoon Bridges are art. The whole place is.
Looking down from the bridgte, that is where we took off in the canoes.
There's the problem. Trash. MUC, you are trash.
I would challenge you to a duel. You have no pride or honor.
What that tree has seen.
As I was leaving the park, one of my beloved streetcars rolled up. I got a big lump in my throat. The street cars use to go to the end of Canal Street. I don't know if they still do. They did not come to City Park when I lived there. This is nice. That is Carrolton. My daughter use to live just down the way. We would come in and watch Endymian, the Mardi Gras parade. It was a neighborhood affair where we were. Man, what a blast.
I left and headed out Wisner saluting the old General one more time. I really missed the clock.
Do you know where Old Stinky was?
