At LeCompte I'd had enough of US 71. Even for one that loves it I needed my space. I couldn't decide if I wanted to go to the hills or the bayous. I chose the bayous. I would take La.457 east toward the Red River. I've been on this road and I was looking for spur roads to spice things up a bit and maybe, just maybe, there would be something of interest down one of them. Beaver?
I had seen Tiger Lake Road and past it up. Then I saw Tiger Lake Cutoff. I couldn't be tempted twice. At the "t" with Tiger Lake Road I came to these directions. It was decision time. I chose Poland as it was the obvious choice. First, I didn't want to go back to LeCompte.  Second, the road to Heaven has a toll booth and I don't think I've collected enough tokens yet. So, off to Poland I went.
Poland never appeard. I did get to La. 1 and decided to turn it south. I arrived in Echo. I saw something that was being over grown with trash trees.  It was an old cotton gin. The cotton gins were going strong back when I was a kid. Every town in the Red River Valley had one. Sometimes they were just out in the country next to a railroad track. This one is still in pretty good shape. Won't be soon.
I wanted to avoid the big loop to Marksville and decided to take the La.114 short cut. At Hesner, the crossroads of 114 and 115 I saw this great church.
The lighthouse portrayal carried over to the steeple. I don't know if this one is original or the set motif of the FGC of F Church.
I made it into Cottonport where Bayou Rouge end/begins or use to. Two bayous did come together to form the Rouge, but that is all blocked off now as their level lies below the Rouge. I stopped at a friend's house and shot the bull a bit. A fierce storm was threatening and I decided to out run it. I did.
I made it back to Lebeau and found the Zydeco music featival. All the roads were blocked. The swamp scene is along one of the approaches I tried. They even had it blocked. Thought I'd trick em. Fat chance.
With the faint sounds of "tearing it up" Zydeco echoing down into the swamp I stopped and just took it all in. Had I had a great Saturday afternoon or what.  I'm headed to the gas station. I sure hope the bike "admirers" aren't there. I'll try coughing..
