There was a William and Charles BURNEY living in Goolsby Militia District, Jasper County, GA in 1870, and I have the sneaky suspision that they are part of our BURNEY family. William BURNEY born ABT. 1820 (born abt. 6 years after Caroline ODOM) could be her brother, and if so they were seperated when very young. Charles BURNEY born ABT. 1846 is likely the son of William BURNEY and who was living nextdoor to him. Other possibility is that Charles is another son of Caroline ODOM, and brother of Eben BURNEY. That which leads me to believe the connection is the naming tradition of "Caroline/Carrie" and or "Adaline/Addie between Eben, William and Charles's families. By 1880 Eben and Jeanette were also living in Goolsby Militia District, as was Silas and Ella (BURNEY) MOORE , also was Caroline ODOM who was then living with Silas and Ella (Caroline was living with Eben and Jeanette in 1870). There were 7 BURNEY slave owners in Jasper County BET: 1840-1860 and 2 major holders of over 50 slaves in 1860....none in Putnam County. As time and money permits me, I will be conducting a search of the deed records for both counties, and BURNEY estate/inventory files.

Could Ridda be the mother or grandmother of possibly brother and sister William and Caroline?
Before I forget, I need to mention that besides Caroline ODOM living in the 1870 household of Eben and Jeanette, was also living a Nancy BROWN age 70, born abt. 1800 GA. If not the mother of Jeanette, Nancy may have been a very young mother of Caroline and a daughter of Ridda? So many unknowns at this point.
