Greenlee knocked as politely as she could on Erica's door, and was rewarded with a "Come in!" She entered almost hesitantly. The smile faded instantly from Erica's face. "Oh," she said with disdain. "What did YOU want?" "I do work here, remember?" Greenlee inquired, trying not to get sarcastic. "Yes and I told you to keep OUT of this office 'remember'?" Erica offered with a sugary- sweet smile. "But I needed to tell you something-" Greenlee started to protest. "Then write me a memo," Erica said lightly, practically shoving Greenlee out the door. "And just so you know, that skirt really does NOTHING for you." "That's it!" Greenlee snapped. "I've tried to be nice! I came here in good faith-" Erica laughed, tossing her hair. "Somehow I find that VERY difficult to believe." "Believe what you want. Because I quit!" Erica's mouth dropped open. "You WHAT?" "Just think of it as another step on my road to success," Greenlee shrugged. "My resignation will be on you're desk by noon." Erica looked at her suspiciously. "You're up to SOMETHING, Greenlee. What, do you think I'll find you irreplaceable? Because I assure you that I won't. If you walk out the door, don't bother coming back." "Don't worry," Greenlee said, turning. "If I have my way you'll never see me again. And just so you know, you might want to have your accountants checked out." She stormed out. The reality that she didn't have a job hit Greenlee slowly as she walked out of the Enchantment building and into what seemed to be an overly bright street. She realized that her father would most likely be disappointed AGAIN, then shrugged. It wasn't like he'd ever done much for her. Without even realizing where she was going she headed for SOS. Once there she marched directly up to the bar, figuring that getting slightly drunk would make her feel better. CONTINUE CHAPTER 2 |
