You'll hear about young female actors being propositioned by male producers, agents, directors---but what you don't hear about are all the young male actors that get propositioned just as much, but by the same sex.
You've got these young x-football jocks with thick necks from Anywhere, USA, coming out to L.A. to study with a name acting teacher and get ready bubba cause they'll glob onto you in a heartbeat.
Even with all the gay pride parades and open attitudes, and especially in a seemingly progressive place like L.A., you'd think everything would be pretty much out in the open by now------nope.
Much of the industry is still in the closet. And the casting couch is still alive and throbbing. But nobody "talks about it".
What straight, conservative, apple pie, churching going America doesn't know is that allot of the handsome young men they see star on these shows every week, began as a "Fuck Picture". The casting director takes one look at his 8 by 10 glossy photo on his desk top and asks himself "Would I fuck him?". If the answer is yes, the young hopeful might just have an important interview coming up.
The industry is run on sex appeal, and allot of the decision makers are gay men and women. So put 2 & 2 together. If you are going to play in this game, you are going to have to curry the favor of these gay men and women.
If you are straight, you might escape their clutches--IF you play it real smart. Be cool, don't piss 'em off. When you shake their hand, give them that coy little smile, that suggests "the possibility exists", then after you get the job, politely turning them down or not returning their overture won't have such a detrimental effect on your blossoming career. |
