![]() First in the news, I´ve been sick. Not physically, yet, but I´ve had what I´m hoping is only a cold (at worst the flu) for the better part of half a week. It is really cold over here and my nose is running like a tap. I´m in desperate need of a box of tissues, as I ran out last night. In other news I have a place to stay. It is a nice room, if a little out of the centre of town. I´m sharing with two guys, Jose and Ivan. They seem nice enough but Jose speaks next to no english, and Ivan claims to only speak a little. In all honesty his english is better than my spanish. I´ve suffered a bit of a setback in the course of my studies. Many of the suhjects I wanted to take are only offered in first semester or are year long subjects, which makes things rather difficult for me. But I have discovered that they offer Russian here! That class is a must. I can´t wait to see how they teach Russian in Spanish, could be lots of fun. Since I´ve spent most of my time talking about myself and all that boring stuff I suppose I should tell you a little bit about the city itself. Salamanca is a fairly large city, and very old. Many of the old buildings are still standing and there are no concrete roads inside of the city centre, they are all the old cobble stone! The old cathedral is absolutely amazing, but the gothic architecture looks somewhat strange against the pale stone. Most of the buildings here are sandstone, or something similar. Sometimes I can´t help but think that these walls and building have been around for hundreds of years and will be here for a hundred more and I have touched them! Okay, now I´m probably getting a little weird... No photos yet, sorry. They are running on Windows 95 here and it doesn´t have a plug and play mechanism, so basically my camera won´t work. I´m going to try and find another internet cafe. There is one close to the university that I think is probably a little more up-to-date than this one that I have been using. I have some great shots from the British Museum and I´ll get them up ASAP as soon as I find a computer that can cope with the technology. Finally I have decided that I will never eat another Pizza Hut pizza again. The pizza here is delicious, fresh and cheap! Dominos and Pizza Hut could never measure up against this. ![]() : Home : : Guide : : Journals : : Gallery : : Lozza's Lists : : Email : |
