Marsha and Jim's Home

Back

Charleston, day 18

Aunt Dorothy is the only one of the children left of her generation. Marsha and Jim have provided a wonderful and safe home for her. I am blessed to see how well she is.

We visited Aunt Francie and Uncle Jack's graves and shared our memories -- Marsha of her parents, I of a much admired aunt and uncle who were good friends of my parents as well as people who were integrally involved in my life. Aunt Francie was 15 years older than I, and I am about the same number of years older than Marsha. Marsha is four years older than my daughter. So we have a lot of memories to share. Marsha catches me up on the part of their lives that happened after I was gone from here. Such a blessing to know.

We went to Marsha and Jim's other home. Both Marsha and Jim are nature lovers. Jim does landscaping as a profession, and Marsha has Mammy's green thumb and common sense about the earth. These pictures are before we pulled some of the grasses from the pond to take to the other house. Jim tells me the grasses will have fish eggs and they will hatch when the grasses are "transplanted" to the ponds at the other house.

Later, we sit by a campfire at this permanent campsite Marsha and Jim have where they now live -- we totally lost track of time and finally called it a day just before midnight.

The final pictures on this page are the next morning, just before we left for northern West Virginia. The grasses are already beginning to stand up straight, coaxed by the sun. The fish that were already there are playing around the fountains.
