Bowling Green -- Tuesday, day 15
Today we finished our transition for Mom. We've accomplished a
lot in two days, and now we leave Mom safely in the hands of the
"other daughter" and son-in-law. We've been fortunate this trip
in that Mom has seen and spent some time with all three of her
children. She was a great traveler, even though traveling is
tiring.
Both evenings here in Bowling Green, we've had family suppers
with my sister and her family, and were fortunate to be joined
this evening by Judy's other daughter and her family. Looking for
another excuse for a party, we celebrated Mom's 80th birthday
once again. But this will be the last one this year. She -- and
we -- must get back to a healthier way of eating so we're all
strong enough to do another trip like this some time.
Tomorrow, we start our journey without Mom. We will miss her, but
she will be much more comfortable in a house that doesn't move,
I'm sure. She was a great sport on this trip and makes me proud
to be her daughter.
We head for West Virginia tomorrow, my home state, and visit all
the places I used to go as a child. We will spend time with my
cousin and her husband and my aunt, and then go to the northern
part of the state where I was born and spent vacation times with
my great aunts and uncles after we moved from there.
In the northern part of the state, I will meet a more distant
cousin, Bill Cunningham. Bill and I have corresponded over the
last several years, but we've never met. Bill set up the
Genealogical Web Site for Wetzel County, WV, and he has family
information on everyone from Wetzel. We're related through the
Shreve line (my mother's). We will also visit one of my mother's
sisters there.
I'm not sure how much internet access we will have in West
Virginia. We will be camping in my cousin's yard near Charleston,
and then in a hunting ground when we go farther north into West
Virginia. So, if you're enjoying our trip with us, please be
patient this next week. We should have some beautiful shots
coming out of WV.
