Branson to Bowling Green -- Saturday, day 13
A long day's drive. We left the RV park (America's Best
Campgrounds) at about 8:00 a.m. and arrived in Bowling Green
(KOA) a little before 7:00 p.m. We took US 60 from just south of
Springfield, MO, and picked up the Western Kentucky Parkway just
outside of Cairo, IL. From there, we drove to the Natcher Parkway
and went south to Bowling Green.
The temperatures warmed as we drove. It's warm and humid
here tonight in Bowling Green. We're glad to have air conditioning in the RV.
We got Mom settled in with my sister and her family where she
will stay for the next few months. Tomorrow, we'll take care of
transferring prescriptions and going over Mom's super nutrition
plan that keeps her young and vital.
It was really nice to take the two-lane roads and see the farms.
We saw more cattle ranches than any other kind of farm, and most
seemed to be family ranches. It was beautiful.
The bridge to cross the Mississippi was narrow, and we
ran abreast of the little curb on the right side. We could hear
the scraping sound, and it was scary. Lauren was able to
handle the rig really well, and we figured later it must have
been just the tires. This was our only scary incident on the trip
so far.
Lauren says that when the 18-wheelers pass us, the air shoves us
over a little to the side of the road, and it takes a little work
to keep us on the straight and narrow. On the interstates, it's
not much of a problem. However, it is on narrow roads. We
are sitting almost as high as the drivers in the big rigs -- a
strange feeling.
