Branson -- Friday, day 11
We took in the Barbara Fairchild morning show, time definitely
well spent. We were there nearly three hours. She really puts
together a great show. No skimping on time or talent or
interaction with the audience for Barbara.
We arrived in time for the pre-show. A well-dressed man was
serving as MC, and he was interrupted by some lady who came late
trying to find her seat. Of course, it was a setup -- the "lady"
was actually the drummer with a more than hilarious Ozark
routine. We laughed ourselves silly.
After the pre-show thoroughly awakened us, Barbara's husband,
Roy, talked with the audience for a while. Les had informed them
of Mom's birthday, and they presented her with a $10 gift
certificate to one of the local restaurants.
The show was really lively. Barbara has what seems to be an
unlimited resource of energy (I'm sure she might disagree at
times...) and holds nothing back when putting on the show. She is
lively, effervescent, and a charming lady.
In one of our pictures, we see Barbara singing a love song to a
man she gathered out of the audience, while Roy is threatening to
nudge him hard with his guitar neck. Barbara went through the
isles and rubbed the balding heads of many of the older gents
(there were no other kind at the show, as you might imagine this
time of year in Branson), and she chose one to dance with. We had
a lot of laughs.
The group presented us with a couple skits -- one of an Ozarks
family with all of the band members playing the parts of the
children, and another of Rhett and Scarlett from Gone with the
Wind. Part of Barbara's costume was made from a curtain rod (see
the long object coming from her shoulder) with the lace curtains
still attached.
Barbara signed autographs and posed for pictures with many
people. We took a picture of her and Mom.
Later, we went to supper and then to the Moe Bandy show where we
were again treated to comedy skits, lots of good music, and the
great feeling of being part of a party.
