The LAUSD jazz program began forty-two years ago as a labor of love by
Mr. Chuck Wackerman. Mr. Wackerman's esteem in the jazz world has
brought the participation of such jazz legends as Louie Bellson,
Ed Shaughnessy, Shelly Manne, Frank Rosolino, Hampton Hawes, Carol Kay,
Chuck Flores, Bill Watrous, Maynard Ferguson, Tom Kubis, Allan Holdsworth,
Frank Capp, Bob Florence.

For school year 2008 - 2009, LAHS Jazz bands will participate in a number of regional Jazz festivals, including Reno Jazz festival which will be in April 23 - 26, 2009.
