| 24 Hour Party People- Is the semi true rock-u-mentary style film about the uprising of the Manchester rock scene in the late 70s early 80s. It starts with the Sex Pistols first performance in Manchester in 1976 where members of the bands, The Stranglers, Joy Division (to later become New Order) Simply Red and others attended the 30 count show, to make it a historical event. Onto Tony Jones the news guy who cant get a decent story from his boss, who makes his own show So It Goes that sheds light on the (then) underground Punk music scene. Ton y gets ambitious, and wants to start live music nights which he calls Factory Nights that showcase unknown talent. The night catches on, and enter Joy Division. They become the hometown favorite, breaking attendance records, and a few days before their tour of America the lead singer , well, think Michael Hutchence..anywaythe band then morphs into the most popular band of the 80s New Order and the rest is history. They do interesting cuts of archive footage into the film footage to make it look like our actors are really at the show. Cool beans! This is a film for all of you who dig rock history. See it and sing along. :c))) Amelie- Gets the cutie pie award from me! And Im not being sarcastic about that at all. This is a sweet film about a lovely yet oddly charming girl named Amelie. She lives in the city, works at a bistro and when shes off work lives in a romantic dream world. The film is built around her crush on this equally odd guy who collects throw away pictures from photo booths. One day lover boy drops his book in the street and Am picks it up and starts looking through it. She tries to piece together who he is and starts to fall for the guy. In the interim there are side stories, a rude grocer, a hypochondriac, her fathers gnome obsession, and the watchful neighbor that all weave a colorful tapestry around our heroine that makes her whole. See this one when you wanna feel sweet. :c) Ausin Powers 3- Goldmember- Is the third installation of the rip roaring Austin Powers series. It has our man Austin time travelling back to the 1970s to head off the evil Goldmember, whos name is for obvious reasons. Dr. Evil is locked up in a Georgia penitentiary and decides to break out and continue his plot to take over the earth, this time by flooding the place and building a submarine for himself. There are many cameos by gigantic stars as well as plot line surprises. Beyonce does well as it is a Spoof, so the acting ability doesnt matter as much as the big hair and fierce outfits. Some of the gags had me crying from laughter! See this one when you need a good chuckle :c) Barbershop- Is a new film starring Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer and Eve as barbers in a neighborhood shop that been around 40 years. Ice is Calvin the owner who got the shop from his father. Calvin wants to make records and not cut hair and decides to sell the shop. But after a very long, hectic winter day Calvin then sees the historical importance of the Barbershop in the black community and changes his mind, but it may be too late. See this one to see how he gets out of this one :c)) Bourne Identity- Is a clever film about a CIA agent who has bonked his head and is found floating in the Mediterranean Sea by some fishermen. Once fished out and nursed back to health, he finds his way to Sweden, then starts to gather clues about his identity. A long the way he buys a ride from a damsel in distress played by Franka Potente of Run Lola Run fame. They form an alliance and run from the bad guys, and participate in the freshest car chase since the French Connection! Matt is exciting and precise, stoic and way sexier than Bond because hes so low key. I am looking forward to the Bourne series, cause Matt has the right stuff. :c) |
