FPS:
Frames Per Second. A unit used to measure computer and display performance. A frame is one complete scan of the display screen. Each frame consists of a number of horizontal scan lines; each scan line includes a number of pixels on the computer screen. The number of horizontal scan lines represents the vertical resolution and the number of pixels per scan line represents the horizontal resolution of the display.

Some people have problems getting FPS caps in Counter-Strike, so I'm gonna write this short tutorial on a couple ways I know how to fix it. The two common caps that I see a lot is 72 FPS and 60 FPS...

If you have a cap of 60 FPS, then right click your desktop and click properties. Click the "Settings" tab at the top and look over the window. Down below the "Screen Area" slide bar, there should be two buttons (depending on your OS), Advanced and Troubleshooting. Click advanced and it will bring up your monitor and video card settings. Click the tab that has your Video Card's name on it, GeForce 2 Ti Pro for example, and look over the window. From here on out my information could get kind of shakey, beings I probably have a different video card then most of you. Now, look for a setting, button or some sort of file tab that says "OpenGL". Under that section you need to look for a certain setting called "Vertical Sync". There should be a drop down with the options of "Always Off", "Off by Default" and "On by Default". My guess is that yours is probably on if you have a 60 FPS cap. Switch this setting to "Off by Default", that way if other games require VSync (Vertical Sync), they can still access it. That should fix your problem if you have a 60fps cap. Now just click the OK button, and start fragging with a higher and much smoother screen. :)

Now onto the 72 FPS cap. This is a much easier fix. Simply find your counter strike folder (called "cstrike") and look for a file called "config.cfg". Open this file up with notepad [The real man's word processor ;) ] and find a line in the file called "fps_max 72.00", and change that number from 72.00 to 100.00, close the file and click save, and bingo, all done.

Hope these short tutorials help some of you struggling CSers. :)
