Who is Solo?

This portrait of myself was drawn by a good friend up on campus, Derek Moody!

Do ya really wanna know? I mean REALLY wanna know? Oh well, here goes, you've been warned :-P

A Smattering of History

Hmmm....lessie. I've been writing ever since I was ten. I'm a profuse reader, I started reading J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" when I was in my early years of grade school. I hope to become a published author someday (one can only hope). My interests other than anime is mythology, paleontology, cryptozoology, anthropology, philosophy, forensic science, mortuary science, quantum physics, environmental science and ecology, animal rights and women's rights (no, I ain't no friggin' bra burner, okay?!).

I'm a 'B-C' average student at Catonsville Comm. College in Baltimore County, Md. Uhh...I acquired a few scholarships here and there. Trust me, I'm not as brainy as I sound, really, I'm not. I usually hang out on campus with the MFS, or Medieval-Fantasy Society, which is considered the group where all the social misfits hang out, hehe. We're the campus rats, as it where. we are the largest club, with members branched out in every other club on campus to ensure preservation, as there have been numerous attempts by the student body to shut us down. We usually hang around and practice swordfighting, talk about anime or videogames, sleep, or steal food from other club functions. In fact, I happen to be Vice President of the Anime Club, which was spawned off of the MFS.

I'm no preppie, prude or brownnose. I've been described by all who know me as a jabbermouth sugar junkie with the memory of a goldfish and the attention span of a housefly on crack. In short, I have all the bad habits of Duo Maxwell combined in one little package. That and I've always had a strange fascination with anything dark, goth, and centered around death. No, I am NOT suicidal. I have Attention Deficit Disorder, which means my mind is almost always in at least 5 places at once at any given times. Which means, I can multitask like a bitch. I'm usually a very disorganized person. Rather messy and sloppy. If I show up to class on time its a shock, and if I can remember your name two minutes after making your acquaintance, then you've just witnessed a miracle.

The Otaku in Me

I've loved anime longer than I can remember. I think that Japanese Anime is a very beautiful, exquisite and sometimes bizarre art form. It has shown a certain marriage, if you will, of Japanese and American culture. I will always be an otaku, and I hope someday when I have kids that they'll be just as appreciative of it as I am.

Well, I am a MAJOR cyberpunk. I eat, sleep, and dress cyberpunk. I will fall in love with anything, I mean ANYTHING that has big guns, lasers, heavy machinery, cyborgs, giant robots, alternate dimensions, bio-engineering, psychothrillers, and MECHA. I am a huge mecha fiend, as you can probably already tell.

So why a shrine of Duo? Well, Duo Maxwell has always been a top favorite of mine. Not only do we look alot alike, but we act alot alike as well. What captivated me about him was his wonderful personality and witty humor. But, on the flip side, the sadness and pain that he harbors deep inside captivates me very much as well. His history is by far my favorite of the G-Boys. I mean, who could not like this guy?! That and...HE PILOTS MECHA!

That, and I found Gundam Wing to be a fascinating anime! It has excellent plotline, and the characters and story are alluring and captivating. I felt an immediate connection with the G-Boys and their pain. I was hooked on it immediately. Heh, nothin' like a buncha angst-ridden, post-pubescent boys flying giant mecha. Hehehehe...

Why am I named after a dead guy from Gundam Wing Episode Zero? Well, Gundam Wing aside, the name is something that very much fits me. Even tho I hang out with a group of people, I seem to function better when left alone to my own devices. Despite the boisterous loudmouth I tend to be, I tend to shy away from groups and certain social situations. I have been described as being antisocial and even bitter by some. That and, even though Solo has only been mentioned by name only in the GW universe, he is one of my favorite characters. So little is known on him, making him rather obscure and underappreciated. In all reality, if it hadn't been for Solo, Duo would probably have been a nameless orphan dead in the gutter somewhere. Solo taught him how to run, hide, steal and be street smart. Alot of Duo's actions I attribute to Solo. His name, let alone how he died, makes him a rather depressing, yet captivating character.
