Here we go

Don't get me wrong...I'm delighted that Blue triumphed over Red yesterday. As stated here before, both parties are controlled by the same fascist corporate warmongering interests - I refer to them as the PTB (Powers That Be). However, the Dems tend to paint much nicer scenery and play nicer theme music. Hey, it might be a facade, but given a choice, I'll take it. When the other choice is as obnoxious and repugnant as McPalin, no QAI!

So now we see Mr. O setting the tone for the new administration by tapping the pro-Zionist warmonger Rahm Emanuel to be chief of staff. This is the guy who worked hard in the House Democratic caucus to thwart and defuse any anti-war momentum the last congress was elected with. So what of the public sentiment to get out of Iraq now? Stay tuned.

I have given some thought to conservative warnings that single-party rule by the Dems could give us a leftist brand of fascism, not to be confused with the right-wing fascist tendencies of the soon-to-depart Current Occupant.

Odd as it seems, I will miss the Current Occupant's veto threats to keep "hate crimes" legislation at bay. (Not that he was a champion for civil liberties, but the few principled conservatives left in his party kept him honest on this one).

The new congress and administration needs to focus on ending empire-building abroad and the imploding economy at home. Unfortunately, certain factions will be pressing an agenda at odds with civil liberties and freedom of speech. Well-meaning intentions to curb notorious blow-hards like Rush Limbaugh with the "Fairness Doctrine" will open the door to more censorship, and that will hurt everyone.

We don’t need thought control under the guise of outlawing “hate crimes” to combat violence against certain groups – there are more than enough statutes proscribing every kind of harassment and violent assault. It’s nothing short of Orwellian for the state to attempt to project an assailant’s inner motives and feelings. Honest, rational thinking dictates that only empirical aspects of crime be considered for enforcement, such as actual criminal activity. Hate crime advocates want to go even further, and outlaw expressing one’s opinion regarding certain protected groups or topics. This has already been enacted in Canada and some European countries, and historians have actually been jailed for controversial research into the Nazi Holocaust. It even gets worse – Australia is putting the boot on freedom of expression on the Internet.

Ok, not to get too carried away with this before election night celebration confetti finishes settling. There are indications that Mr. O will choose a centerist course, as did Clinton. The PTB behind him are certainly cut from the same cloth. We could see hopeful signs of a positive agenda emerge that includes dismantling Gulag Guantanamo, and a New-Deal approach to the ongoing economic implosion. Again, let’s consider the alternative: McCain would declare a 100 years war in the Middle East, and announce a capital gains tax cut for the upper 1% bracket as his economic stimulus plan. Oh, and don’t forget – the war costs would be put on the national credit card.
