Liza and her Dad, Bo Bergstrom, travel from the Middle East to the Mediteranian
Croatia
From the beautiful Piran, we drove 6km to Croatia.  Yet another breezy border crossing and we began the coastal drive south-east along Croatia's azure blue gorgeous Adriatic Sea.

A short stop for lunch in Rovina Gova had us experience the most unusual restaurant ever.  What would you like today??  How about a bear steak... no??  Bear stew??  Well, there was horse also cooked several different ways??  Different game meat also.  Dad and Walle decided to have sausages.. Hmmm - although they were tasty... I still think the choice was a bit risky.  Who knows what were in those 'mystery bags' of meat???!!

Half a day's drive later and we arrived at Paklenica National Park.  What a cracker camp site!  Our neighbours were fantastic.  They live there 4 months of the year.  Amoung their residents / family were several loveable characters.  'Lucky' is the biggest, happiest dog who just wants to befriend you and does so extraordinarily well!  Lucky bounds up to you with ball in mouth and wills you with his big brown eyes to play 'fetch' (the dog fetches, I mean - not me :)  Then they have another small scruffy dog - who is ironically called Drago.  He obviously has 'little dog' syndrome and thinks he has the biggest meanest bark in town!  Throw in a couple of cats, who love going for morning walks with the dogs !!!???? (yeah - weirdest sight!)... and you have a great menagerie and the friendliest neighbours.  A couple of days relaxing, spending time in the sun and beautiful clear water and being woken up by the birds in the morning.. and we were ready for Dubrovnik!

Dubrovnik - 400km away.  150km of toll road and the rest of windy coastal road.. should take us 5-6 hours.  No problem!  Hmmm.. so why then did we leave at 10.30am and not arrive until 11 hours later??!!   Well, obviously it was time for some more excitement on the Bergstrom Safari!  Too many beautiful days in a row.. we needed to throw in some turmoil to spice things up and help us appreciate the good days.  Mind you... please let it be known that I did not purposefully feed Hasty diesel!!!!!   I meant to give him petrol.. honestly, I did!!!  Anyway.. Hasty became very sick very quickly and refused to gallop down the road.  Dad - the Handy-man, Jack of all trades, 'can do anything' man, once again, came to the rescue.  After reassuring me that I wouldn't have permanently damaged Hasty (he just won't go)... he began the delicate task of having Hasty's stomach pumped.

Now, the getting rid of Hasty's stomach contents is a huge story in itself...  but the short version involves (1) a very unhelpful service station manager (2) a very cranky service station manager (3) the highway patrol being called in (4) the hazardous waste team being called in (4 ) our stomach pumping attempt being reported to the police (5) waiting for an extra hour for the police to arrive (6) Liza having to give a statement and her passport details to the police.. and the verdict????  Well, Liza managed to befriend the hazardous waste team, who then did all the talking to the police and so eventually..... off we merrily drove.  Well, sort of 'merrily'.  Hasty was intially protesting with a couple of bangs and clouds of black smoke!!!!

Dubrovnik..

Well... what can I say.  3 glorious days, in a gloroius old city, with glorious weather.  Everything was... glorious (of course).  In fact, I even think Dad gave Dubrovnik his highest rating of 'awesome'!  Of course, it must be said that there was excitement in the air.. the ever-changing Bergstrom Safari was getting ready to metamorphasise.

The next chapter of the Bergstrom Safari????  Why yes - new dynamics.  Walle would be leaving the Bergstrom Safari when we caught the ferry from Dubrovnik to Italy... and ...and... and... Mum would be joining us!!
