On Friday, February 15, Republican House minority leader Mitch McConnell observed the following about Democratic attempts to remove ex post facto laws granting immunity to corporations involved in illegal eavesdropping on the American public. “It leaves you with the impression that they are more interested in seeing companies in court than seeing terrorists in jail.”

Since Bush has promised to veto any wiretapping legislation bill that does not grant immunity to corporations involved in the illegal practice in the past, one could more correctly observe that Mr. Bush is more interested with protecting illegal corporate practices than seeing terrorists in jail.

What about the creation of a Special Surveillance Court?

GOP Congress members agree that domestic surveillance should be unrestricted in the interest of national security. They believe that waiting of a court for permission would severely delay the process and would thus cause weakness in our intelligence community. What about the creation of a special surveillance court that could quickly determine if wiretapping is warranted?
