You are not like the rest
But you are wonderful to behold
Unique in every way
I have seen every movement
of your beautiful heart unfold



To be like everyone else is easy
You just blend in
I could look around
and not see where you are
But you stand out from the rest
Whether you be near or far



It is like looking across the lake
The beauty of white swans
will catch your eye
But a black swan is rare indeed
That is the one that fills you with
excitement as it passes by



So unique and rare
is a black swan
You will call to a friend
to come and see what you have found
before it is gone



A happiness inside you
lifts up your soul
because you have been blessed
To see this beautiful treasure
that stands out from the rest

As I lie at rest on a patch of clover in the Western Park when the day is done.
I watch as the wild black swans fly over with their phalanx turned to the sinking sun;
And I hear the clang of their leader crying to a lagging mate in the rearward flying,
And they fade away in the darkness dying, Where the stars are mustering one by one.

Although now seen around the world in animal sanctuaries and zoos,
black swans are indigenious to Australia and are the official emblem of Western Australia.
