Psalm of Christmas Eve
C. K. Norwid

I.

Oh, thanks to you, Father of peoples - God, that You gave us a free land, and naked,
Neither bound to the impenetrable sea, Neither the gravity of the wild mountains,
But as a breast opened by God ...

II.

So in this arena you will not
No adversary will stand , but a safe man - and he who is reluctant to seek armor,
but complete, double-edged at all, Which stands like a star in a clear sky.

III.

And for this thank you, O Lord,
that a man will not be drunk on that day, nor will he be drunk by warm winds, caressing
him into nothingness - and will disturb the trees and flowers, butterflies, darling.

IV.

You shot to the sky, he will look at You, Who through the stable you entered into humanity,
And you lay in the tomb of withered herbs - in a manger, And in the season of earthly vain coquettishness,
And when the whole world rolled in the tomb.

V.

for the right then to the Polish area We thank you, one indefinite,
the All-real - but the clouds wiszaru looking at the world in truth split
light-shadows and spread the spell-spell.

VI.

And which grace you will draw with a ray the district of peoples in the time of peoples - chaos,
Yes, you circled the ring as the sea, and did not cast the mountains into the balance of fate,
But you play with the vilest of creatures.

VII.

To You, Father of the Homelands, I rise up.
In this very famous poverty of ours, and in this hope, which is eight wings
every day, and in constant tears, and in the pains that we still bear.

VIII.

O, thank you for the state of sorrows, And for the martyrdom - the multiplication of crowns,
And for the goblet of nobility poured out
upon the people whose name is - suffering - And for opening the gates of ... to infinity.

O HOLY NITE

O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Til He appeared and the soul felt His worth

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder beams a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night devine! O night when Christ was born!
O night devine! O night, O night devine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here came the wise men from the Orient land

The King of Kings lay in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend
He knows our need
To our weakness no stranger
Behold your King! before the lowly bend!
Behold your King! before Him bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus rise we
Let all within us praise His holy name
Christ is the Lord
Then ever, ever praise we
His pow'r and glory ever more proclaim
His pow'r andglory ever more proclaim
