The Child at Christmas

Lights shine in their eyes, at this wondrous time of year
Surprises are not hard for them to know
Tom-toms bang __ and clangers clang
To set young face aglow
And Santa’s toys now wait to make their show

On this Eve of Santa Claus, excitement grows
Thinking bout their wishes, heaven knows
Wondering what the dear old man, will bring along tonight
Maybe a new doll, or some candies that I like?
I’ll leave some cookies out, or Christmas pudding
__ for the night
Then sneak a peak at Santa’s jolly nose

Christmas spirit echoes in their laughter
As children strut processions round the room
A model train for Tim
And doll for Terri Lynn
While the Christmas tree lights play a jolly tune!

So keep these memories always close beside you
Cherish children on their special day
Heaven holds a place
For a heart that still shows grace
Even when your years are many and you’re grey
