BRRRRR! Had to get up twice last night! Once to turn the A/C warmer - once to turn it cooler! Ha Ha.
Breakfast this morning wasn't alone! YAY! The guys ended up working until 10:30! Poor things! Anyway, it meant that they got up a little later, and ended up sitting with me for breakfast (sitting with me, not me with them...I'm accepted ). Breakfast was a cold sunny side up fried egg (which meant it didn't run every where...yolk control - I liked it! HA HA) Spicey roasted potatoes, pineapple and an excellent (If I hadn't been stuffed I could have eaten 2) oat bran muffin. AND COFFEE!! YAY! (though No Cranberry). It's cold out this morning, so I'm trying wearing my coveralls for warmth. Off I go. Oh, I forgot to mention, you learn to eat SUPER FAST around here. The guys eat and leave - no waiting for each other to finish - who wants to be last?
This morning wasn't too bad - overcast again. Not AS windy, but still chilly. The sun came out around noon, as always. $10 says it's gone by 3pm!
We cut the panels and trim for the bandstand today. Since I'm not much for cutting and they have to be right, I just assisted by holding wood and drawing lines. After lunch we'll be gluing the deck and trim down, fastening it, drilling plug holes, etc and I'll be of more use. I did some more clean up and supervisory work today. Learned how they made trim on rounded decks. Joked about the weather (No WONDER French people are so rude! They're jealous they never get to see the sun!)
Forgot to tell you, they lay this sticky plastic sheeting over 90% of all the carpet (sticky side down) and it pops whenever you walk on it from the air bubbles. They tape off stairways so you can't use them and they change which stairways they decide you can use! There aren't too many contractors on this drydock. They are replacing all the outside carpeting, so THAT'S real fun! Seems our container is the only one outside on an upper deck - I don't see any one else's container anywhere...
They are putting in new, HIDEOUS indoor carpet somwhere...I'm guessing a teen room or arcade. It's dark blue with moons and Saturns and star dust all over it. UGLY! We stole a remnant from outside the dumpster to wipe our feet on by our epoxy mixing station.
King Pekka went into town last night and he said everything was closed! at 7pm! He was there until 9:30 wandering around - couldn't even find a T-shirt! Lots of homeless people, though. He said it was a very pretty downtown, but very expensive - I guess to get to, since nothing was open, I don't know what he spent his money on!
Lunch today - spaghetti with tomato sauce (well, more like tomato flavored red spaghetti noodles - HA!) I put a piece of cheese on it when I got it and the cheese was soft by the time I sat down, not melted, just soft. Tomato, pepper and not Feta but the other one - less salty...good salad a little Greek-ish dressing - yum. Pineapples and what I THOUGHT was going to be papaya but ended up being cantalope (BLECH! ate it anyway) The crust of a nasty mango-ish or maybe apricot, I couldn't tell cobbler type dessert. And the most DELISH fresh PEAR! I peeled 1/2 of it (Who knows how clean the outside was!) and was only going to eat 1/2 but by gosh...somehow the other 1/2 skin came off and my hands ended up sticky with pear juice and my mouth was singing happy songs - all that was left was the stem and a couple seeds. I had to wash my hands again!
I really didn't eat much lunch - or breakfast (I was hungry at 10:30) so I wonder what time I'll get hungry at tonight for dinner - usually by the time dinner rolls around, I could take it or leave it and I usually only eat because I'm with the guys - Tonight I have a feeling I'll be leading the way - We'll see - I hope it's something good. Off to work! I've been on overtime all day today already! Ain't that cool??
Ok, so after lunch today I got down and WORKED! I forstner bit all the bung holes THEN I screwed the deck down - well, first Kenneth wiped the plywood down with acetone and the panels (the backs after he made sure they were properly sanded). Then King Pekka put glue down. We started at the center of the deck and worked our way out - 0ne panel at a time. When Kenneth lined the panel up, using the spacers, I would put in the center screws, then he would go prepare the next panel as I screwed down the rest of the panel. Evan showed up while I was screwing down the last panel - all of a sudden I heard "YOU GO, GIRL!" after we got that screwed down, we glued and screwed the trim. Then we glued in the bungs on the facia - Then we did the bungs on the deck and trim - All said and done, we finished at 8pm. Amazingly...I'm not achey or tired, but I am looking forward to sleep.
Dinner sucked. WHY do they insist on putting the salad dressing BEFORE the salad?? How stupid is that? They had NO CHEESE, not that I really wanted any tonight. NO salad on one side - NO meatless anything, except rosemary roasted potatoes. They had crappy brown rolls. NO FORKS! NO JUICE! So, I had rosemary potatoes and a salad...and some kind of Napoleon type of dessert that was ok. So much for eating much!
Back to the cabin for a shower, read a little and sleepy.
We're off to Italy some time tomorrow night / early Tuesday morning. The notes all say everyone must be back on-board by midnight tomorrow - so if I go into Marseille, it's tomorrow. We'll see what happens.
