UGH! HOT! NO A/C - So...Boiling inside - Chilly outside. On goes the sweatshirt - off goes the sweatshirt. I'm getting my exercise! Plus, no elevators, so STAIRS! Crew mess on 5, cabin on 8, work on 14, dumpster on 15, container on 16 = lots of stairs!
Breakfast today - 2 hardboiled egg whites, 1/2 Raisin Bran & 1 piece wheat toast. NO coffee because they were out.
Slept pretty good. I don't think I woke up at all.
Up to Deck 14 by 7a. Sanding out the fairing this morning. Messier than taking up the tile! There wasn't much for me to do here, though. I helped Oli cover the bar in plastic to help minimize the dust that got all over everything and then I took the garbage out from last night (buckets & lids, etc). Then, since there wasn't much for me to do there, I went to watch Pekka putting the goosenecks in the jacuzzis up on Deck 16. He uses a hole saw to cut through the teak and the aluminum deck to vent around the jacuzzis because there are NO VENTS! Then, he installs 3 goosenecks on top and several vents on the side (one at each side, last I heard) so the moisture can get out and it doesn't mold in there. THAT job went well today - only good news of the day.
So, after I watched a little of that (and was sent to get a DA sander) I went downstairs and got hooked into helping Kenneth with the Bandstand. Fine by me - easy work, painting primer on the metal stand that the teak rests on so it doesn't rust. It sits about 1" (on starboard side) to 3" (on port side) off the deck. I was on my knees and head and side all day as I painted the top, sides and bottom of it...It's epoxied into the deck - unmovable. BUT! I had to be careful because the epoxy wasn't dry yet! I had fun. I got filthy. I used my knee pads and they got filthy, too. The primer is olive green...parts of me could have joined the Army when I was done. I was successful, though! I didn't get any in my hair.
While I was crawling around on the floor, the rest of the job fell apart.
First, they (Weymouth, England shop) didn't pack up enough grinder pads for sanding. The tool kits were missing items and other stuff that I'm unclear of was wrong, but it gets better.
The panels for the Calypso Bar were made too short. The panels for the Bandstand were made BACKWARDS! They didn't send any studs or washers with the stud welder!!! Then, when Evan calls "C" in Weymouth, he's not there. He talks to "E" and tells him CRITICAL! CALL "C" AND TELL HIM EMERGENCY!! CAN'T STUDWELD WITHOUT STUDS! HOW ARE WE GOING TO INSTALL THE DECK???
"E" calls "C". "E" calls Evan back. "C" doesn't have the decency to call Evan himself. "C" tries to lie his way out of it, saying he spoke to Damian and told him he'd have to pack studs from the US (Why are they on the pack list then?) Evan calls Damian (who's on his way to LA for Monarch of the Seas) who says "WHAT??" So, now what? Good question. THIS should be fun.
While all this was going on, the other guys were cutting the (too small) panels for the Calypso Bar - trim will be wider than we planned. And refairing for any low spots. Tonight the fairing dries. Tomorrow we sand again and we'll see what Evan decides to do about the deck that we can't fasten the way we'd planned.
The Bandstand was fixable. The plywood and panels should go down tomorrow because the steel frame is all ready for it.
Jacuzzis are done.
Interior work needs to be done still.
Lunch today was cheese pizza, french fries, cheese, salad with French dressing (gee, where am I?) and cranberry & orange juice (because OJ came out instead of water, so I just dumped it in my cranberry - it was good!) oh and an almond chocolate cake. Dinner? Wasn't hungry and we all met up at Crew bar. I had 2 Heinekins (in French the first ingredient was EAU...I KNEW IT! Beer is made of EEWW!) We all showed up and before I knew it, it was 9:15 and dinner ends at 9, so I'm going to bed...10:30 after my shower and such.
No laundry done tonight! Maybe tomorrow.
NOW I'm starting to get hungry...Breakfast better be good!
I forgot to mention the bathroom here in my cabin is TINY - smaller than Carnival and the shower! Good thing I'm not fat! I don't even want to think about having to shave my legs in there!!
