LEKEY DORJI for BARDO-TRONG CONSTITUENCY
I intend to informally put pertinent information and issues on Bardo, Shingkhar, Nangkor and Trong for 2008 elections!
Me with a family in Zurphey

This is me with a farming family in Zurphey.  There are often many women in the villages of Zhemgang who are single mothers - children born out of wedlock. I know you are laughing but this is no laughing matter.  This is one of the social ills I would like to address if I am elected.

Illegitimacy is a big issue in rural Bhutan. If a father happens to be from the village, there is a way of bringing him to account either through marriage or compensation. The problem becomes complex when visiting civil servants (non-locals) exploit young women by making them yield to their sexual advances on false matrimonial promises. Contraceptive, despite being aware or having access, is not used to satisfy their lust. As for girls, who wouldn't like to escape drudgery of rural life to be civil servants' spouses?

"Night hunting" functions as a courtship amongst villagers, but this custom breaks down when outsiders exploit it to have one night sex with villagers.
