Critical Thinking

The process of asking questions, forming and supporting opinions, evaluating evidence, and placing issues in a broader context.  The ability to think critically can help you sift through the ever-growing amount of information designed to influence what you think, believe, and buy:  the Web pages and the emails, the newspaper and the gossip you hear.

Critical Reading Process:

1. Consider what you already know about a topic
2. Identify the main ideas in the text
3. Locate the evidence that supports these ideas
4. ** Evaluate how well the author presents them
