My story: Pebbles was born under our apartment on July 17, 1997 and about a month later the kittens were crying. So we called the landlord who went under the house and saw no cats and boarded it all up so no more could get in. Well, THREE days later we heard horrible crying. The kittens were under the house, and the Mom was outside trying to claw her way in. We called the landlord back and he said there was a small hole to get under the porch, and the kittens were hiding there.
We opened a vent screen up and got 5 kittens out with the smell of tuna fish. There were 4 boys, and 1 girl, who is now our precious Pebbles. She was the boss too. We had to feed them smelly canned food because they had such a bad upper respitory infection that is all they smelled. We had to have 2 plates of food; one for Pebbles and one for the boys. Otherwise they wouldn't get anything to eat. It took me 4 days to find someone to take the other cats, and a wonderful woman from second chance took them and nursed them back to health. They also were infested with fleas, had ear mites, weighed less than a pound, and were only 4 weeks old. The streets were not a better alternate though.
I am proud to say we saved her, and she is safe and happy here. Pebbles is now 3 years old, and never meows. She also wants to be friends with the bird, but he doesn't feel the same way about her.
