KYRGYZSTAN

Kyrgyzstan
is a Central Asian country that achieved its independence from the Soviet
Union in 1991. Total area is 198,500 sq km and it is slightly smaller than
South Dakota. The population of Kyrgyzstan is about 4.7 million with 1.43%
growth. There are different ethnic groups that live in Kyrgyzstan: Kirghiz
- 52.4%, Russian - 18%, Uzbek - 12.9%, Ukrainian - 2.5%, German 2.4% and
others. The main religion is Muslim (75%) followed by Russian Orthodox (20%).
There are two official languages: Russian and Kirghiz. The
capital is Bishkek.
