| SCORPIONS AND TORNADOS!!! This was a wonderful vacation for Darby (humans having an enjoyable time as well!) but it was not without a occasional scary moment. Such as the first night when Darby was sniffing around (notice her dark whiskers!) and she tried to say "Hello!" to a scorpoin. Salutations from the scorpion were delivered in a much different manner and our Darby had quite a sore leg for a couple of days. We would have immediately taken her to the vet had it not also been the same night a tornado hit the town of Hondo and a tiny ranch in Utopia, Texas. We were hunckered down listening to a most violent rain/hail storm and the eery silence of a tornado passing over head. The next morning we were able to see the minimal damage to the hill tops and a few felled trees mere yards from our solid abode. Darby was up and running/limping about, scurrying/limping under the brush and chasing/limping after small varmits by the next morning apparently now being able to tell the difference between scorpions and rabbits. All's well that ends well! |

| Darby came into our life just a few months ago. From the first week we could not imagine our life without her! We can never repay the kindness of Mr. and Mrs. West, Darby's first parents (Yes, the West family had a Westie. Isn't that adorable?!), for the joy Darby has brought our family. When Darby hears Mrs. West on the answering machine, her ears perk up in recognition and she stands very still listening to every word! It is so cute. We have elected to add "Montoya" to her name while keeping the name "West". The West family gave her love for over 9 years and will always be a monumental part of Darby's life. |
| We were unsure how Darby would handle traveling in the car and now we know - She is a trooper! She loves it. This is her first vacation with us - Mi Cielito in Utopia, Texas. A great get-away with the Gehri family. |

| Bernie kindly held Darby on the decking until I was assured she realized there was a ledge with a long drop down to rushing water below. Darby was great. I was stressed. |
| Darby makes new friends. Shablee and Jabin were very kind especially in light of Darby's sudden Rottweiller mentality! Darby thought she was the leader of the pack and would look back with surprise when Shablee and Jabin weren't following her lead chasing small critters through the brush and undergrowth. Darby was busy exploring new territories. Shablee and Jabin were content to bask in the sun, Shablee perched on her front porch throne, watching Darby run back and forth. It was quite exhausting just watching! |
