Misato hated her father for many reasons, but during the Second Impact, he sacrificed his life to save hers, and from that day on she made it her goal to destroy the Angels. She was the only person from the Katsuragi Expidition who survived the Second Impact. For five years she was mute, and mentally unstable as a reaction from the shock she expirienced.
Afterwards she attended collage and met Kaji, who would become her lover, and Ritsuko, who would become her friend and colleague. After college, Misato and Ritsuko joined NERV, and Misato was one step closer to her goal of destroying the Angels.
Later, Misato was to become the guardian/living companion of the Third and Second children, Ikari Shinji, and Asuka Langley. They would eventually become asustomed to her disaster area of an apartment, constant drinking, and pet warm-water penguin, Pen Pen.
