Divine Intervention By: Kyoryoku Nazo .......... Prologue .......... This story begins, as some do, in the middle of things... A red flash of light spread out in all directions, surrounding Duo Maxwell in a void of crimson. A man appeared before him with fiery red hair and a strange mark on his forehead, staring down the seventeen year old with shimmering and commanding eyes. "The one who claims to be a God," the man replied with hidden amusement. Duo could only stare in disbelief. How could he answer such a being? "And the God of Death no less," the being continued, folding it's arms across it's chest. "Who...who are you?" the American finally managed to get out. "Who am I? I am Suzaku! Guardian of the South, the Great Red Phoenix, summouned by the one named Miaka to bring prosperity to the land of Konan!" "Oh," Duo answered meekly. "Well, why am I here?" "You are here young man, because your sacrifice is about to be rewarded in the most amusing of ways. The gods have pronounced you the Nazo no Miko, the one who must summon the Goddess of the South. Things will be explained in this book. More than that I'm afraid, cannot be revealed to you at this time," the red-haired god stated matter-o-factly. * * * With a start, Duo sat straight up in his bed, covered in sweat. "Now that, was a strange dream," he muttered under his breath. Just as he turned over to return to sleep, his alarm clock went off, blasting rock music in his ears. "DAMMIT!" Stumbling out of bed, the American pilot made his way to the bathroom, eventually emerging and stumbling into his clothes, finally storming off downstairs, ready to start his day. Ever since the war had ended, life for the four remaining Gundam pilots just hadn't been the same. Especially with Wufei gone. He sighed and remembered how the five of them would fight together. Long before the days of Marie Maiya, before the first war had ended, before Treize had died. Before he finally seduced Heero. As if reading his thoughts, Heero snuck up behind him, giving him a friendly kiss of the cheek. "You sure slept long enough," the dark haired boy murmured in his ear. Duo smiled and turned his head to the side, capturing Heero's lips with his own. Oh, how the once stoic boy had changed since the end of the war! "I was having a very interesting dream," he whispered back, smirking at the Japanese boy's blush. "Really?" "Yeah, this red-haired god said something about me being the 'Nazo no Miko'. Then he gave me this book called 'The Book of the Universe of the Four Goddesses'," Duo replied with a look of sarcasm on his face, which he quickly dropped when he saw Heero's look of sudden paleness. "Saa, what's wrong Hee-chan?" "I..I had a very similar dream," the former solider answered slowly. "Only I was visited by a blue haired god named Seiryuu. And I supposed to be the, um, 'miko', to find the seishi." Duo looked at him carefully, shocked that there was nothing but seriousness in Heero's face. After years of working with the fellow pilot, Duo had come to be able to tell when he was lying. Unfortunately, this was not one of those times. "Hold on for just a second Heero, you're telling me that you buy this stuff?" "There's a legend in Japan, that back near the turn of the twenty-first century, two girls were sent to Ancient China to envoke the beast gods, through a book called 'The Book of the Universe of the Four Gods'. I've never heard of one having to do with four goddesses though." "Okay, slow down Heero. Now what was it you said about being a 'sayshe'?" "Seishi," "Whatever. Now what does that mean anyway?" "It's sort of a play on words. 'Sei' being the word for star, taking the place of 'sen' in 'senshi'. It means 'celestial warrior'," "Okay, now what was that other word, 'miko'?" "Well," Heero said, coughly and blushing slightly, "That means 'priestess'," "What?! There's no when in hell I'm going to be a damned priestess!" Duo yelled, flinging his arms wide to show his enthusiasm. However, as he did so, a small black book came out of the pocket of his jacket. Both him and Heero eyed the book with fear and curiosity. "It can't be," Heero muttered, walking over and picking it up slowly. "It's in Chinese," he looked up at Duo who was turning paler by the second. "Well, what does it say?" he asked shakily. "The Book of the Universe of the Four Goddesses," Heero replied in just as shaky a tone. Duo's eyes must have turned the size of dinner plates, not at the freakish fact of the book's name, but that Heero, no matter how much he might have softened, was scared. Duo had NEVER seen him scared in all the years that he'd known him. Slowly, Duo reached foward and took the book from Heero, opening the cover and reading the first page in very rough Chinese, "Unlike the Book of the Universe of the Four Gods, this tale transcends time and dimensions. For this book is a magic spell, a spell which becomes reality after the first page is read," Before he could read anymore, a black glow dotted with sparkling white shimmers filled the room, engulfing the braided boy. "HEERO!!!" * * * As the glow faded, Heero was left alone in the kitchen with the mysterious book. Blinking several times before he registered what had just happened. "This can't be happening," he whispered, staring down at the once blank second page of the book, now slowly filling in with text. All he could do was read it aloud, hoping that Duo was okay. "The Priestess of Nazo had a difficult journey ahead of him, as he would have to travel the lands of all plains of existance. Along these travels, he would have to find the Seven Stars of Nazo, seven warriors chosen from their birth to serve the Goddess and defend her priestess. First, he must search the land of Universe of the Four Gods, where one of his seishi would surface," ************************************* GUNDAM WING, FUSHIGI YUUGI AND IT'S CHARACTERS BELONG TO THEIR RESPECTIVE CREATORS ORIGINAL FICTION IS CONSIDERED PROPERTY OF KYORYOKU NAZO ************************************* *Scenes from upcoming chapters* "I can't be a seishi to this goddess of yours! I already serve Suzaku!" "I've never quite met anyone like you, Duo. I don't understand much of this, but I know now that I was born to serve and protect you. Just like Tama serves and protects Miaka," "You expect me to allow you to duel without a Rose Signet? Who do you think I am? The Ends of the World?" "Come now Heero, it's time to take your place as the Priestess of Ukyou!" "I can't leave now! Terra is almost mine! MWUAHAHAHAHA!" "Ever since I discarded the name Peacecraft, I knew that I was to be forever shamed as a warrior. Not even this goddess of yours can change that," "Let's see, you want me to join you on your travels across various dimensions. And will I do it? Now THAT is a secret!"
