| Character: Tenjou Utena Series: Shoujo Kakumei Utena Style: duelist style series version Debut: February 2002 Cons: Katsucon 8 Cost: about $80 Comments: The two things that I didn't make on the costume were the most expensive: the wig and the epaulets. The wig was bought off eBay and the epaulets (the red shoulder-thingies) were comissioned by this awesome fellow cosplayer who goes by 'Jadzia*Dax'. The gold cord and neck clasp were attached to the epaulets and thus were also bought by Jadzia. The duelist jacket was all me baby! What you see was once a men's dress shirt bought from a thrift store, cut and then lined with red trim, covering the stitches with red puff-pain. That took FOREVER! It looked great though. Just like with the real Utena, all the pockets and visible buttons are fake ^_^. The shorts were bought at Target, as well as the accurate blue sports bra that you can't see in that photo, but was visible when I wore the costume in the Cosplay Contest for the Anime Moulin Rouge number which won two judges awards, thank you very much ^_^. Although not visible, I had the saddle shoes with the knee high socks as well. Also not pictured, I had a long-stemmed white rose for a while, as well as my one-of-kind Touga plushie, made by myself. Character Info: Tenjou Utena transfers to Ohtori Academy as a junior high student and quickly befriends a girl named Wakaba. Wakaba is publicly embarassed by a popular boy named Saionji who is the captain of the kendo team and the vice-president of the Student Council. She challanges him to a duel and he accepts, seeing the Rose Signet ring that she wears. She remembers being given the ring by a mysterious prince as a child, but coincidentally, all Student Council members at Ohtori also bear that ring, and it allows them the right to Duel for the Rose Bride. The one who possesses the Bride while fighting the Duel of Revolutions will revolutionize the world and gain eternity. All this on her first day of school. |
