| Character: Super Sailormoon Series: Sailormoon SuperS Style: slight cross between manga and series Debut: June 2003 Cons: Anime Mid-Atlantic 3 Cost: about $225 Comments: Ask anyone in Dark Muffins. I did not want to do this costume. I was supposed to be FishEye originally (not that I was too thrilled about that either) but dear lord, not Sailormoon! So I told myself that if I had to be Sailormoon, I would be the best Sailormoon ever. The majority of the price was spend on the wig. After Black Lady, I wasn't really either to do another odango wig, so as a group (although I still paid for most of it) we purchased a commissioned wig for $150. It was worth it. It was beautiful and I got so many comments on it! The rest of the costume, however, was all me. The base of the fuku is a Wal-Mart brand leotard, child size large. You heard me. CHILD SIZE LARGE. Basically, I wore it under my clothes for a solid week to get it streched out enough. But it worked. And it looked good. The shoulder flap and skirt are completely detachable from the leotard and connect with metal snaps. This was done so that the next person to play Sailormoon doesn't have to do the whole thing, just buy their own size leotard. The bow was constructed using posterboard and fabric stuffed with Polyfill. I really like the end result. The heart lockets are made of foamie. For the boots, I mutalated knee high boots I already owned (see Nephrite and D ^_^) by glueing the fabric to the boot itself. Those are NOT boot covers, it's a solid piece. And yes, I am WELL AWARE how short the skirt is! People kept on informing me as if I had no idea. It's SUPPOSED to be short! Anime girls have LONG LEGS! SHEESH! All in all, I think I did a really good job. You'll never catch me dead in it again, though. Character Info: Sailormoon is the transformed identity of high school klutz Usagi Tsukino, who is actually the reincarnated princess of the moon kingdom (Silver Millienium) of a thousand years ago. As the story advances, Sailormoon gradually gains more power and abilities as she reaches a new level of transformation. The level known as 'Super Sailormoon' first appears in the third story arc (or season) known as the 'S' season. By harnessing the powers of the Holy Grail, she takes on the idenity of the Messiah of Light to counteract the Messiah of Silence (Sailorsaturn) and prevents the destruction of the world. Using this 'Crisis MakeUp', her ordinary school fuku receives touches of rainbow with an overlaying butterfly theme that makes far more sense in the following fourth season, or 'SuperS'. Now jumping straight to Crisis MakeUp, both Usagi and Chibiusagi use 'super' transformation and perform the attack 'Moon Gorgeous Meditation' with a wand that strongly resembles a kaleidescope. In this season, Sailormoon and her senshi battle against the Dead Moon Circus lead by Queen Neherenia, a mirror image of the future Neo-Queen with two odangos and long flowing hair in a rich ebony that parelles Serenity's future silver hair. This level of transformation is the last step for the final Eternal stage of power. |
