| Character: Black Lady Series: Sailormoon R Style: slight cross between manga and series Debut: November 2002 Cons: Nekocon Victory! Cost: about $75 Comments: Few dare to take on the costume of Black Lady. Those who do...don't always, let's say, do her justice. I would like to think that I've been one of the better Black Lady cosplayers out there. The dress wasn't that big of a deal. It was by no means easy, but compared to Alexiel or D, I'll say that I've had worse. The obvious task when doing Black Lady is of course the wig. Hot pink is rare enough as it is, and to find one long enough to make two full cone odongos AND have four-foot tails off each one...the search was a "fun" one. The 'base' of the wig was made by pulling a regular wig back into a tight pony-tail and lobbing it off, leaving a tiny stub of hair which was practically glued down and under the wig's elastic. With a little help from fellow Muffin Lauren, we made the odongos by wraping a four-foot extension around a light-weight cone shaped...thing. It was a mass of paper and tape, there's really no other word for it. Two coat-hanger wires were left sticking out of each cone, and they were bent straight and stuck through the cap of the 'base' wig, fitted to my head and held in place with electrical tape. A piece of fishing line was then strung between the two cones to prevent them from sagging (but by the end of the cosplay, it might as well not have been there). Two more four-foot extensions were attached to each cone, wrapped around the cone base and then sewn into the hair on the cone with pink thread. Afterwards, the finished product was hair-sprayed until my family couldn't take the smell anymore. Ah, ghetto cosplay ^_^. Character Info: Black Lady is an enchanted form of the character Chibiusagi, the daughter of Usagi (Sailormoon) and Mamoru (Tuxedo Kamen). During the second arc of Sailormoon, nobility from a planet called Nemesis - the Black Moon family - make a try for Earth and it's Silver Imperium Crystal. Chibiusa has traveled back in time from 30th century Crystal Tokyo to train as a Sailor Senshi with the Sailormoon and her soliders of the past. While there, the Black Moon attacks, led by the cloaked figure of Wiseman, the physical form of the Doom Phantom, who is the driving force of the Black Moon. He sees incredible power in Chibiusa and while she's upset with her parents, he offers her power and transforms her into Black Lady. While Chibiusa appears to be a young girl of maybe eight years of age, Black Lady is a voluptous woman who could be anywhere from seventeen to maybe about twenty-two. While in her childlike form, Chibiusa had a crush on Mamoru (who, un-beknownst to her, is her future father) and this amplifies to the extreme when she bears the Black Moon on her forehead. She does the biddings of Prince Diamond up until she sees Sailorpluto die after freezing time. This snaps her out of Wiseman's control and returns her to her normal state. Keep in mind that this is only the manga storyline (which is of course, the original concept of Naoko) and varies slightly in the series, Sera-Myu musicals, and Dark Muffins' cosplay ^_^. |
