| Character: Alexiel Series: Angel Sanctuary Style: manga artbook version Debut: August 2001 Cons: Otakon 2001 Cost: almost $200 Comments: Taking the jump from 'Toonami' type characters to something out there and artsy like Angel Sanctuary was an interesting experiance. I was introduced to the manga by Rose. For the love of God, and all that is holy, DO NOT JUDGE THE BEAUTIFUL UN-TRANSLATED MANGA BY THE ANIMATED OAV'S!!! The OAV's sum up a mere fraction of an amazing and unique story. This is what anime is all about people, not pre-pubescent girls with magic powers. I'm not giving up my love for shoujo, but there is so much more that anime has to offer. Back to the costume. Each piece of vinyl (the corset, the gloves, the boot covers, the shoots) cost about $25 each. The wings were hand-made by myself and are more than $50 in feathers. And yes I hand-made them. They were not bought or made by a friend. Granted, Rose would hand me the hot-glue gun when I had my hands full, but I think it's fair to say that it's my art here. The skirt was a sheet bought at K-Mart and the shirt was altered from one I already had. The top straps on the corset were hand-sewn to the actual waist-cinching part that I bought off eBay. The headband and arm-belt-buckle-things were hand made as well. The shoes however, were incredibly uncomfortable, so I don't look very happy in most of the pictures. I looked awesome though! Rose, Patrick and Phillip from Dark Muffins were also along as other Angel Sanctuary characters. Character Info: God's first creation, Adam, the six-winged angel, created two three-winged angels: Alexiel, the Organic Angel, and Rosiel, the Inorganic Angel. Alexiel was beautiful and was God's favorite. In a jealous rage, her brother Rosiel ripped her skin from her body and wore it himself to become beautiful as well. Rosiel won God's favor and angered Alexiel. She led a rebellion on Heaven and was defeated, her punishment being to be re-incarnated over and over, each life-time containing a tragic love story and a painful death. Rosiel soon choses to start a conflict of his own, and attempts to re-awaken Alexiel from her current incarnation, a teenaged boy named Setsuna. Very, very strange. |
