The Amerindians

of Amazonia

Waorani Men

These two naked Waorani men are in a jungle clearing.

Their bodies are decorated with an indigenous vegetable dye applied by finger dabbing.  Spotted designs such as these mimic the pattern of leopards and other cats that inhabit Amazonia.  Their ear lobes have been pierced and plugs inserted into the piercing.  Plugs are repeatedly replaced by larger plugs to enlarge the piercing hole so that large decorative plugs adorn the face.

A semi decorative waistband is worn under which is passed the foreskin of the penis.  If the waistband is tight enough to hold the foreskin against the stomach. then the desired result is achieved:  the penis is held upright and the scrotum is now fully exposed and displayed.

The man on the left has his foreskin fixed so that the tip emerges from the upper edge of his waist band.

Yanomani (1)

In a jungle village stands these naked men from the Yanomani tribe.

The older man on the left wears nothing apart from his kynodesme. The younger man on the right wears an arm band and a necklace and he has a lower lip piercing through which is passed a long decorative thorn.

Both both wear thin string-like waist bands baind their foreskins. Their penises are held taut in an upright position such that their scrotums are exposed and displayed.

The kynodesme is so thin that it is barely noticeable giving the appearence of the penis being erect.

Yanomani (2)

At the water's edge a Yanomani lad takes a rest from fishing and has a snack.

As part of their initiation into manhood Yanomani boys are fitted with their first kynodesme. This lad may be new to the experience of wearing a kynodesme and he appears to be enjoying some tumescence.

Yanomani (3)

These two Yanomani men have taken an hallucenogenic snuff as part of a jungle spirit ritual and they now dance in a trance.  Both men are naked and are decorated only with necklaces and waistbands.  The waistbands are tied around their foreskins and lift their penises into an upright position fully exposing and displaying their scrotums.

The binding of the foreskin seems particularly tight and a considerable proportion of the foreskin is taken up in the binding.  This may be done so that the penis doesn't work loose during their prolonged and uncontrolled dancing. Any discomfort of a tight binding may well be dulled by the effects of the hallucinogen.
