I shouldn't even be here. I know, I really shouldn't. But my laundry's still drying and I can't go on packing before that's done. And my alternatives are vacuuming my room or taking a shower. Both options that don't make sense seeing that I'm probably gonna mess up my room again and I'm gonna be sweating again before I'm done. Especially seeing as we have 28C in the shade (why go on vacation? We could just go to Bondi or Manly).
Went to the Plaza earlier to get sunscreen and insect repellent and of course I got a whole bunch of things more. A beach towel a skirt, shorts, shirts, pajama pants...and the list goes on. Argh. So much for my praised self-control...lol ;o) And I so need to send a package home. Or probably more like 3 or 4. I was thinking of sending my winter stuff back in October, when I can be fairly certain that it's not getting cold again. I'll just leave one thick sweater and my Nike-Fleece here and send all the other sweatshirts and my jacket or something. Let's see. I'll testpack in October and see how serious it is...lol ;o)
Had a weird encounter of the third kind at Starbucks today. You know how they always ask your name when you order so it's easier to give the right stuff to the right person? So I came in and ordered (I love strawberries & cream! Should've gotten the grande one, but it's so expensive) and talk to the guy about the weather and then he's like "Name for the order?" Look over left shoulder. Look over right shoulder. I'm alone in the damn shop. Even the damn baristas outnumbered me (2:1). Is it really necessary to ask people their names when noone's there? Maybe the heat got to him...lol ;o)
Still waiting for the Cairns Backpacker's guy to call me back. Today they decide to turn around half of our plans and now we're scrambling to get accomodation everywhere. Argh. People. You had like 8 weeks to think about that!! We're only leaving in like 12 hours!!
K, gotta go and rescue my apple roll from the fridge and see if my laundry's done. Until after springbreak. Honestly this time. ;o)
EDIT: Should it worry me that my backpack (the one I came here with) is full when I only put stuff for 10 days in and I'm usually the one who packs the least? How am I gonna get home in the end when that thing is full with 3 shirts, 2 towels and...admittedly, a pillow???? How did I get all my stuff here in the first place???
2:52 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------I think it says a lot for my fabulous self-control that Martin P., journalism major and bossy asshole is still alive and able to reproduce. I didn't think I had it in me, but obviously I've got more patience than I thought (even though it was wearing reeeeally thin). All my guys abandonded me (meaning: James didn't show up at all and Steven left at 3), leaving me alone with said bossy asshole. But I should start from the beginning. Martin didn't show up for TVJ today, which made us all happy, cuz we thought he wouldn't show up for editing either. Well, at first I thought I was the only one happy about it, but then I talked to James and Steve and they both said that he's totally bossy and that it was totally uncalled for how he snapped at me last week. Thank you guys. Why didn't you tell him that? Ah right, because you're spineless!!! That's exactly why you say "Yeah, we should do that" to everything I say, but also to pretty much everything Martin says. Which means, Martin and I are constantly in each others face, cuz that guy doesn't have a clue what he's doing, but wants us to do everything his way. He didn't even know what an intro was today, for God's sake!! And when I explained it, he didn't believe it and was all like "Yeah? Is there a part in the book about it? Show me!" Well maybe if he would have looked at the book earlier and would have been there for any of the lectures he would have known about it already!! So I showed him, and 5 minutes later he was all like "Yeah, but we have to do the intro like that". Oh, so suddenly he's the expert? He wasn't supposed to be there until 3 today, so Steve and I said we're gonna meet at 1 to write the narration and we worked together just fine - and then at 1:30 Martin suddenly shows up (O-Tone Steve: "What's he doing here???" - my thoughts exactly) and disrupted everything. He didn't like what was written, so we had to start all over again. And why? Because he's bossy, and I'm the only one standing up to him, with none of the other guys backing me up. So the only way to work with him without getting into a fight is doing pretty much exactly what he wants, even though he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. So now our whole story doesn't fit what we've been filming, but hey, who cares? It's only my fucking grade, too! And if I fail that subject because of him, I'm gonna kill him. Slowly. With the maximum amount of pain. I'm so ready for vacation. (And let's not even get started on that, cuz listening to those guys plans, I'm gonna start of my vacation - which is supposed to be relaxing with being awake for like 40 hours straight.) See ya in October. If I'm still alive by then.
5:12 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------Huh, where do I start? So much to tell today. ;o) Let's start with Canberra, where Sahori and I went yesterday. Thank God somebody told us that there was gonna be trackwork again this weekend, or we totally would've missed our bus in Westmead. Trackwork's a pain in the ass, cuz then we usually can only go 2 stations by train to St. Mary's and then have to take the bus to Westmead. Which takes an hour, whereas the train only takes 20 minutes. So we had to be out of the house by 5:20 to catch the 5:52 train - which is just waaaay too early to be up on a Saturday morning...lol ;o) But we made it and even made it to Canberra (with a group of around 15, most of which were Thai). So we went to the Floriade first, which is a little like the BUGA, just smaller and for free, but still nice. The weather was so much better than we expected (so good I even got sunburnt cuz I didn't expect to be running around without my jacket all day and therefore didn't put sunscreen on), so it was nice to walk around the park and Lake Burley Griffin. After that we went to the Parliament House, which is kind of a cool building (check it out in the PHOTO SECTION. It's got grass all over the sides and roof and you can even go up on the roof. And you've got a nice view (almost like in Washington when you're standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial). So we toured that and then went on the Australian War Memorial, which is also kinda cool (for a museum), or mayber rather "different" than "cool" - and for free! Everything's for free in Canberra, that's one of the good things. That's probably to get people to come there, cuz other than having all the governmental buildings there, there's practically nothing. Sure, there are people living there, but absolutely nothing is going on. After 5 at night you don't see anyone on the streets anymore. It's honestly the most boring capital city I've seen so far. Thank god I didn't accept the offer to study here...lol ;o) After the war memorial we went to Embassy Row, which is a whole district where only the embassies are. Germany's was one of the ugliest. Figures. ;o) We saw some of the other stuff, but didn't really stop anywhere else, cuz it was getting late already. So all in all, nice to have seen it, but I wouldn't neccessarily go back. And I also don't feel like I've missed out cuz I haven't really gotten a closer look at some of the attractions.
So around 9 we were back at Westmead and had to take the bus again to St. Mary's and there was this couple (in their 40s) sitting behind us, talking about Germans. Was very interesting to listen to. Fascinating what you find out about yourself on a bus. Obviously Germans are nosey, ask way too many personal questions, but are tidy and have very good food (meaning: very good sausages, cuz that is obviously the only thing we feast on. Forget breastmilk - we've got sausages!!! ARRRRGGGHHH!!! Can anyone please correct this misconception??) All those pearls of wisdom stemmed from them having a German neighbor. Hmm. So if I categorized all Australians by the people who live in res and who I've encountered until now, I'd have to say all Australians are loud, obnoxious, constantly drunk and always one step away from being admitted to the nearest mental facility. See people, that happens when you stereotype. Think about it. Although there might have been some truth in what he was saying...lol ;o)
Meet Amy. Amy lives in Unit 2 and is our self-proclaimed missionary. She's organized a bus to some kind of church each Friday and therefore knocks on every door on Fridays to get people to come. She's long since given up on me (thank god - no pun intended), but Sahori, being the Japanese that she all, can't say no, so she always says "maybe", encouraging Amy to show up again next Friday in hopes that maybe this time, Sahori says yes. So this week she actually did, cuz another Japanese guy was going (what she didn't know at that point was that that guy only went to meet girls and eat pizza. What's pizza got to do with church? Wait and see.). So they left around 7, she was back around midnight. A little long for a normal Friday night mass? That's what I thought. And then Sahori told me what was going on. "Church" is basically a huge hall where a band plays Christian music, everybody tells everyone how they got saved by Jesus Christ, how God turned their life around and you wouldn't wanna give a little money to keep the church alive, would you? And during all that, they eat pizza, meditate, hallucinate and fall to their knees begging for forgiveness. Hmm. Sounds more like a sect to me than an actual religion. Everything that Sahori told me bordered more on brainwashing than anything else. Honestly, I was laughing my ass off when she told me, cuz she was totally freaked out about it and I had told her repeatedly not to go. She was all like: "What am I going to do? I can't say no! That's rude!" So now we've been practicing saying: "I'm sorry, but last week wasn't really my thing, so I don't think I'll go again." lol ;o) The bus we took to Canberra picked people up on Campbelltown, too, by the way. Campbelltown is one of the other UWS campuses and it's actually really nice. All the buildings were a mental institution before (hah! Figures...lol ;o)), but they were renovated and look really nice. And at least the campus is really compact and you don't have to walk 2km into it to see the first building. Anyway. They have the cutest street sign there, with a duck and her ducklings trailing behind her. I really need to get someone to take a picture of that for me. And on the way to Canberra I saw my first real Kangaroo- and Wombat-signs (and a roadkill-wombat right next to it - yuck). But Sahori was the best, we were talking about the signs and Sahori honestly points to a speedbump-sign (you can find them all in my photo section) and asks: "And what animal is that?" I thought she was kidding, but she wasn't. We have like a hundred of those signs on campus. Conveniently placed - surprise - next to speedbumps. Any honestly, does that thing look like an animal? Sometimes I really wonder what she's thinking...lol ;o) Pictures (of Canberra and street signs) are up in the PHOTO SECTION.
Just came from from editing. At like 4. On a Friday afternoon. Which sucks royally. But what sucks even more is that this news story is gonna be a disaster. Martin's the only journalism major, so he feels he has to take control over everything. Thing is, he sucks at it. He sucked on Wednesday while doing the interviews and he sucks at assembling news stories, cuz he obviously never looks at the book or listens to our lecturer or just plain watches the news. He wants to do everything totally artsy, which you can't do in news. We have this weird shot of a woman crossing the street that they want to have in the story, which has nothing to do with the story, though. They just want it in, because they filmed it without the woman knowing and they think it's funny. What's funny got to do in the news? But I was encouraged today not to voice my opinion anymore, after I got fed up with them playing around with the editing equipment for an hour instead of seriously getting work done. And they never plan ahead. We still don't have a narration or an intro. They obviously think that's gonna be done in 10 minutes. Newsflash: try 2 to 3 hours. Since I'm the only one who turned in her scriptwriting exercise, though, I'm the only one who knows it. Argh. And on Tuesday we're booked in editing for 5 hours. 5 FREAKING hours. I'm sure as hell not gonna stay that long. That's what I hate about teamwork. Thay're just gonna do their guy thing and I'm gonna get the bad grade for it. Congratulations to me.
Then Sahori sent me a text message telling me that oops, the trip to Canberra isn't 15 bucks, it's 50. Slight difference there, but well. Who cares? I've got the money, right? Argh.
On a good note though, I talked to Matthew today who's in my tvj class and has lived in Austria for a year, so he speaks German. He's a really nice guy. Actually wants to go to one of the Ranke-Heinemann meetings with me, so let's see if we'll do that sometime in the future.
3:53 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------Especially for youuuuuu Tina! ;o) Just so I updated again. ;o) And by the way, the Bamberg photos are soooo cute! I love them! We really gotta do that photosession when I come back!
Sahori's still learning German. Which is funny as hell, but she's so good at it! Usually I cook and she asks what stuff means in German. And she remembers most of it, too. Her favorite word lately is "Echt?" So everytime I say something she's like "Echt? Echt?" And she says "Gesundheit" when I sneeze and lots more. She has some problems with the l, but we're working on that. I told her after springbreak we're gonna turn the whole thing around and I'm gonna learn Japanese. So let's see how that's gonna go. I'm probably gonna make a fool of myself...lol ;o) But I give her another month and she can spy on my phone conversations...lol ;o) We just had a long talk (in English, though ;o)) about the differences in our cultures and came to the conclusion that I'm a typical German. I'm not sure she meant it as a compliment, though...lol ;o) Cuz I'm pretty sure it had something to do with me never shutting up, saying my opinion and talking way too much about myself...lol ;o) Obviously all things that you don't do in Japan and that kinda irritate her. Oops. I told her she can throw me out or tell me to shut up if I annoy her and she promised to do that. ;o) (She could even do it in German!)
Ashley got the new John Mayer CD today. Yay! Which means I got it for free (and here I thought I was gonna have to pay for it!). Double yay! And I hope the ticket prices here are gonna be like in Europe where they're only 20. And we really need to remember to call next Friday, or we're never gonna be able to get tickets. Gosh, never been on a concert with only 500 people. And seats. Gonna be a really different experience...lol (if we manage to score tickets that is).
Amanda and Erica keep apologizing to me for every sound they make since I asked them this week to keep it a little down between midnight and 9am. Meaning: they apologize even if it's 9pm. Which makes me feel a little weird, cuz they also thank me when I do the dishes and stuff, as if such low work was beyond me. It really makes me feel weird. Anyway. Gotta head to bed. Got 4 hours of editing ahead of me tomorrow morning.
11:24 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------Where do I start? Went over to Werrington this morning at like 8:30 to get the microphone (turns out Martin didn't forget to borrow one, he lost the one he borrowed) and actually planned on walking to the train station, cuz I thought I'd just missed the bus, but Phil was nice enough to stop and pick me up. Arrived in Strathfield at 10:30 - only for Martin not to be there. He finally showed up at 10:45, telling me that James wouldn't be there before 11. That's what I get for hurrying. So we went to Martin's place first to think about questions for the interviews (obviously nobody but me had done that before, James didn't even have a clue what the whole piece was gonna be about). I also got dog hair all over and in my backpack, cuz Martin's (cute but nosey) beagle declared it her new sleeping place. Then we had a whole day of shooting and let's just say Martin and I have some creative differences on how to do a news story...lol ;o) At least sometimes. Mostly we agreed, but some stuff...He wanted to do everything at weird angles and stuff that you just don't do on news. Seems like I'm the only one reading the book and listening to Barbara. I ended up doing most of the shooting and the sound, James just held the microphone and Martin did the interviews - unfortunately, he didn't exactly ask the questions we had agreed upon earlier. But I couldn't exactly interrupt, so I hope we'll have enough good material. Didn't really turn out to be as controversal as we hoped it would be, but people just aren't as outspoken in front of a camera it seems. But well. It went reasonably okay I guess, and at least the weather was really nice. Martin ended up dropping all the equipment on me ("You're gonna bring it back tomorrow, right? Since you live on campus."), which I still hate him for. Cuz he just had to tell those guys he was gonna bring it back at 10 (and they're pretty strict about being on time). So much for sleeping in. And I got the tape, too (to review it and write the narration - which is probably gonna take, oh, another 5 to 6 hours - cuz I don't have anything else to do) and on Friday it seems like Steve and I have to start editing alone, cuz the others won't bother to show up before 12. Thanks. Like I have a clue about editing. Argh. I'm so glad when we get that assignment done. It's just sooo much work.
So I finally got on a train around 6:15 (with my 7000 Dollar equipment - on a PUBLIC TRAIN. To KINGSWOOD. In the DARK. Not something you really should do here) and was finally back here at like 7:30. Dinner was just ready, so I was just right on time (and starving ;o)) and I was looking forward to a nice, quiet tv eve, but that didn't happen. Seems like we have people over every single night now (performance people I might add, who aren't exactly the most quiet and shy kind), so there's screaming and acting and drama all over - and they play at the soccer table all the time, which is so loud that you don't understand your own thoughts, let alone the tv. So I gave up halfway through House, cuz I hadn't caught a whole sentence yet (!!!). And now I'm heading to bed, shower be damned. Good Night
Oh, I almost forgot: They honestly know "Schnappi" here. It was a little disturbing having 2 Australians in the car with me singing "Schi-Schna-Schnappi...". See what gets exported around the globe. Pathetic. ;o)
9:24 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------Sahori's learning German. She can already say "Scheie", "verdammte scheie", "Schei Vogel", "Schei Hund" and to make up for it, I taught her "Guten Morgen", "Ich hab dich lieb", "schn" and (Tina! Just for you! ;o)) "Servus". Well, and some other unrated stuff, too. ;o) And she's really good at it, seeing that she never had to make half of those sounds before in her life...lol ;o)
Had to make Kartoffelpuffer today. Again. They really seem to like it...lol ;o) Took me literally an hour to fry them all. And Australia's really not very big on punctuality. Even tv shows start like 15 minutes late here. Good lord. Germany would go crazy if that happened there...lol ;o)
Marty called me earlier. He picked up our equipment earlier and forgot the mic. Argh!!! Which means I have to go over to Werrington before going to the train station. And they don't open before 9, so I'm gonna be at least an hour late at Strathfield so we can't get started before noon probably. I hope we'll still make it in time and I'll be back before 8.
K, have to continue the German lesson!
8:44 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------5 years today. I feel like I should say something about it, but the only thing that comes to my mind is "Wow, it's already 5 years since I've lived in the states". Not exactly the most profound thing to say on a questionable anniversary like that. Well. I guess everything's been said already anyway.
We got a soccer table today. The only all girls unit and we're the ones with the soccer table. Hmpf. I already told Amanda we'll probably have to start charging entrance fee as soon as the guys find out. I guess then I totally can forget about quiet tv nights.
Sydney's experiencing the wettest september in the last decade. Great. Figures it has to be while I'm here. I hope it doesn't rain on Wednesday, we need to shoot our tv journalism piece. And Juliana gave us an extension today on the workers project. What the fuck? Why did I hurry so much? And now I have to redo my interview, cuz we actually have to write an article and not only do a q&a. Argh. Why can they never tell you stuff like that when they brief you?? Why always when you're pretty much done with stuff? Hmpf.
7:46 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------Weather's still crappy. I still let myself being talked into going to the plaza today, mainly because I wanted to go anyway and was just to lazy to go outside. But they have so many glasses on sale lately and I wanted to see if I could maybe score some nice cheap ones. Turns out if I cam't get the exact glasses I would have gotten in Thailand I'm probably never gonna get any. I just don't have a head for glasses. There were some that were okay, but nothing mindblowing. On the other hand, they're still cheaper here than they are at home and everything's better than the glasses I got now, so maybe I should reconsider and have a look again. Bought a pair of sunglasses, though, even though I really, really don't need one. A pair of thongs, too. Zebra print and pink. Ahem. That happens when you shop with Ashley...lol ;o) But I like them, they're sooo comfy. Was worth the 15 bucks I guess. And they're havaianas, which I was told is a very famous thongs brand (whatever).
Ashley told me John Mayer's coming to Sydney on November 3rd, so we're planning on getting tickets if it isn't too expensive. Problem is tickets go on sale September 22nd while we're on springbreak and the venue isn't all that huge, so I hope we'll still be able to get some when we come back.
Diana was trying to explain Mexican dishes to me yesterday. Turns out the Germans call most of the Mexican stuff by the wrong name. In the end we were both confused, though...lol ;o) So I learned that the stuff they sell in Germany aren't really tortillas, cuz they're made with wheat flour and real tortillas are made with corn. And as soon as you put something on the tortilla it's not a tortilla anymore, it's a burrito. Except for when you cut the meat in long slices and put it in, then it's a fajita. And when you put ham and jalapenos and stuff into quesadillas, that makes them especial...something. Forgot. ...idados maybe? Yeah. And what we call tortilla chips - she didn't know exactly what that was. And tacos...yeah. There was something about tacos, too, but that might have been the part where she got confused, too...lol ;o)
Okay, gotta go. Promised I'd make dinner for the girls.
7:15 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------Sometimes I hate my housemates. Or at least some of them (namely Amanda and Diana a little) plus the guests we're having over at like 9 in the morning (namely Ben and Nohad). Amanda is always exaggerating, I can see why she's going into acting. And she never considers others. When she's awake - everybody has to be awake. So they all got up this morning (Ben stayed the night again, no clue where Nohad came from) around 8:45 or so and then they started telling Amanda the story about Nohad getting smashed last night and vomiting everywhere - which they obviously took pictures of or something Nope, they didn't... So Amanda, being the drama-queen that she is, runs through the house, screaming like an idiot, because it was so disgusting and how could they do this to her, bla bla bla. HELLO!!! Just shut the fuck up girl, it wasn't even 9!!! I don't care who vomited where, as long as it's not in our house - They didn't need to take pictures, seeing as it happened IN OUR BATHROOM!!!, so don't make such a big deal out of it ...no comment. Just....no comment. Good Lord. And that's been going on for an hour now. Next time I'm gonna strangle her/them. Cause I don't really see why Sahori and I try to be extra quiet when we have to get up before everyone else and they don't care at all. And if Ben says "Are you serious?" one more time, I'm gonna have to kill him, too. It's every second sentence and he's starting to rub off on Diana. Argh. I'm getting a headache.
Still no word from the photographer either and I actually wanted to go to the plaza to pick up my pictures, but we got really shitty weather. Started raining last night around 5 and hasn't stopped until like 2 hours ago. And now we pretty much have an storm going on outside, so I'd rather not leave the house.
There it was. The next "Are you serious". I need to get up now and get dressed. I have an assassination to conduct.
10:42 AM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------I just managed to get 7 of the 8 people that are going on springbreak together to book the car and the hostels. What an ordeal. I couldn't really convince them that it's bullshit to stay in Port Douglas, so now our itinerary looks like this:
Sydney - Port Douglas (3x) - Cairns - Airlie Beach - Whitsunday Island (3x) - Cairns - Sydney.
Wow. I need a vacation after springbreak I think. ;o) Nobody cared after an hour anymore, so Ashley and I were just booking away...lol ;o) So we only have to check out tomorrow if the campground and one of the hostels is available and then we're mostly set. Only 2 more weeks!
And I have a shitload of stuff to do before we leave. I'm pretty much meeting with my pr group twice a week now, next week we're finally shooting and editing the tv journalism thingie (which will take up like 3 whole days) - and I really need to go to the plaza tomorrow to get my pix developed. I just don't have a clue when, cuz I have a pr meeting at 12, afterwards I'm meeting Ashley to check out the campgrounds and then it's probably gonna be 3 or 4 again. But I really need to get it done, or my pix won't be ready by Monday.
My reporting in pr today didn't exactly go as planned...lol ;o) I thought so much about how I was gonna make it better than the others before me did - and then I stood in front of everybody and totally forgot...lol ;o) But it wasn't too bad I guess, so all's well.
Thursday I'm getting my picture taken by the uni photographer for the TOEFL thingie. I actually found out what it's about now: it's an interview for the TOEFL ACCESS website, where unis from North America and Australia are featured. And they only interviewed two people for it, and that's Sahori and me. =) I wrote total bullshit about why I came here and what I like best and stuff, but well, I couldn't exactly diss them...lol ;o) I'll let you know the URL as soon as I know it.
New pictures are up at the LIVEJOURNAL ALBUM. It's pix from my photography assignments (as promised) and some stuff in the party section of Josefin's birthday party!
11:33 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------Kikeriki. Or as Mauricio put it: "Enjoy, this is gonna be the most expensive chicken you'll ever have!" Yup. Sure got that right. But let me explain: we used pretty much every oven in our vicinity last night to cook all of our roasts. And in unit 14, nobody really watched the progress in the oven. Which ended in the fire alarm being set off. Which will cost us 600 bucks, because it was a false alarm. Happy dinner party.
Well, it was a nice little dinner after all. Lots of food (on a Sunday! In our unit! That was a first!), and lots of good food at that, and lots of leftover cake! Yay! =) And people actually didn't stay that long, so it was all alright. Went over to Ashley's afterwards watching Grey's Anatomy on dvd. I borrowed the dvd afterwards, but it seems like since I'm here, no dvd from another region works with my nice codebreaker program anymore. Hmpf. Don't know what that's a about. But I can't exactly switch my codes every week, so I guess I'll just have to watch it at Ashley's. Was supposed to come to the Grey's Anatomy Party that's obviously taking place every Monday night in Unit 2, too, but I didn't have my cellphone on me and kinda missed Ashley's message. Not that she's gonna believe that, but that's what happened.
Anyway. Did my photo session with Hannady today and the pix turned out pretty well I think. She's just a natural. I had to tell her almost nothing and we were done in an hour. Maybe I'll put some pix up this week so you know what I'm always talking about. Got my assignment back today, too and yay! I'm not as bad as I thought. 16 out of 20! I can live with that =)
Sahori went to the hospital today. She has a swollen intervertebral disc and is on bedrest for the next two weeks. So much for the zoo. But she was hurting all morning and just lay in bed, not saying anything, cuz she thought we all were busy. When today was the first day in a while that all of us were up a lot earlier than usual. Poor girl. Guess we'll just have to look after her a little the throughout the next week.
Steve Irwin is dead. You know, the crazy guy, always chasing crocodiles and other deadly stuff on RTL2? He's even in the customs video they show you on the plane on the way here. Got stung by a stingray right in the chest. And where did it happen? Off the coast of Cairns and Port Douglas. I'm so looking forward to Springbreak. =/
9:56 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------Only another hour before the house will swarm with people who want food. Argh. I hope the party's over at midnight, I need to get up tomorrow morning. And I can't put my earplugs in, cuz then I won't be able to hear my alarm clock.
Ashley was over yesterday afternoon and cooked for us and we watched a movie. We actually wanted to plan some stuff for springbreak, but of course we didn't really. We checked some stuff out, but didn't really decide on anything. We really gotta hurry with that, though. It's only 3 more weeks.
Went to the Plaza today to do my photoshoot. Let me tell you, that girl is just to animate for me. Half of the pix were blurry, cuz she couldn't stand still for a second. And whenever I told her to slow down a little she stopped completely, so it all looked kinda stilted. My camera hated me today, too, meaning no depth of field at all, which sucks, cuz that's actually one of the criteria we get assessed on. And lots of blurry pictures again, cuz either I had to use a fast shutter speed and a flash (but those pix just look wrong) or I had to use the normal shutter speed and hope she'd stay still long enough - which mostly she didn't. Hmpf. I guess I'll find 6 pictures, I just doubt they're gonna be all that great. Well, at least that's done now. And I only need 13 points anyway. And just thinking about that I have to endure the same ordeal tomorrow again with Hannady creeps me out. I hope she's a better model.
K. Guess I gotta get dressed, seeing that we're having guests and I can't exactly run around with my sweatpants. Argh. I want another weekend.
6:16 PM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------Argh. Way too early to be up on a Saturday morning. And I've been awake for an hour already, even though I only went to sleep at like 2am. =P Went to Josefin's birthday party last night and actually had a pretty good time. They had the greatest cakes ever (this huuuuge 4-Layer Chocolate cake, with choc whipped cream and choc frosting and strawberry shortcake with choc). This is the point where I should probably mention that the theme of the party was "chocolate"...lol ;o) Met a lot of new people who obviously live in res (fascinating, 6 weeks and I still don't know half of them), got caught up in a heated soccer discussion with an Australian and an Argentinian (no clue how that happened) - and realized I don't really get along that well with Henrik. I'm not sure why, but we just don't click. He has this really great camera, cuz he loves to take photos (and he's obviously really, really good at it, judging from what the others told me) and he's in my photojournalism class. So I told him about the camera I had borrowed and that it was basically crap and he got all stand-offish at me, being like "Well I know they have better cameras there, I've seen them, so maybe you should've taken the time to reserve one." Hello? If I don't know they exist and nobody tells me, how the hell am I supposed to reserve them then? Vacation's gonna be fun with him I guess. Pl and me also don't really know what to talk about I think...lol ;o) He's always trying to be nice, but after like 3 sentences, we usually part ways. Maybe not too surprising, seeing as he and Henrik are practially joined by the hip (we call them our married couple).
Still haven't done my scriptwriting, even though I've been studying every day since Wednesday. But it's the only thing I've left to do, so I really need to do it today.
8:56 AM [GTM+10] ---------------------------------------------------------------------Beat that, Germany! 27C and still rising today. Yay! And it's not even spring yet! I really need to get some shorts, my long skirt's already killing me. And right on time McDonald's raising their ice-cream prices. Now you're paying 50 cents (0,30) for a soft serve cone, which is still really cheap, but 30 cents (about 0,18) was just cheaper.
Anyway. So if it stays like this I think I need to buy some sunscreen, seeing how sunburn-prone I am and the intensity of the sun here (remember: slip, slop, slap! ;o)). You can get sunscreen in canisters here, that has to say something.
Got the most beautiful earrings today. Let's see if I'm ever gonna wear them...lol ;o) I have this habit of buying stuff that looks good, just not on me...lol ;o). And I got a dogtags-necklace (but with small tags, kinda girly) that I already love (and wear), too.
And I'm going to Canberra in 2 weeks with Sahori and some of her friends. We're renting a bus, so it's only like 15 bucks each, which is like really, really cheap, seeing as the same trip with uni would have cost like 80 bucks. So I'm looking forward to that.
And on another good note, I found someone to do my "Workers & their workplace" assignment with me! Yay! I went to the Plaza earlier and asked at one of the florist's there and one of the girls is gonna do it. So I got a photo shoot pretty much all sunday, which means I have to think of questions for the interview and photo opportunities. And I still haven't done my scriptwriting exercise. Or the competitor analysis for pr. Or any of a hundred other things I'm supposed to do this weekend. So I gotta stop now and go to work. See ya as soon as the craziness is over here.
