| Joseph F. Bauman, 78, of Battle Creek died Friday, January 21, 1994 at home. He had been ill since November. He was born November 22, 1915 in Battle Creek to Joseph F. and Marie H. (Geise) Bauman. A 1934 graduate of St. Philip Catholic Central High School, he was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek. Mr. Bauman served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and later was employed at Sears, Roebuck, and Co., and for 41 years at Eaton Corp. He retired in 1981 as an inspector. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater from 1943 to 1945. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with three bronze battle stars. Mr Bauman was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1990 at St. Philip Catholic Church, where he was a member. He also was a founder and lifelong member of the St.Joseph Dads Club and a life member of Queen City Council Knights of Columbus. He was a former scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 25 at St. Philip Catholic Church and a volunteer coach at St. Philip Junior High School in the 1930's. He taught tennis at St. Philip School and coached basketball at St. Joseph School and Little League ball. He also coached American Legion baseball in the 1930's and was an avid Notre Dame supporter. He married the former Beatrice M. Walsh on June 18, 1940 in Tyre. She survives. Also surviving are sons, Joseph F. Bauman of Cary, Ill., James R. Bauman of Hermosa Beach, Calif., William P.. Bauman of Grand Rapids, David M. Bauman of Holt, and Maurice L. Bauman of Battle Creek, daughters Kathleen A. Maddix and Mary Sue Lawson of Battle Creek, 26 grandchildren, sisters, Mary Agnes Kopplin of Milwaukee, Wis., Theresa Hogan of Columbus, Ohio, Sister Marianelle Margaret Bauman of Monroe, and Helen Schoder and JoAnn Smith of Battle Creek; and brothers Justin Bauman of Portage, Vincent and Paul Bauman of Battle Creek. |
