On June 5, 2001, Roger and I went out to eat at one of our more common eateries, Ponderosa ("The Big Tomato" his father Bill used to call it). Already dragging from a long day, I proceed to eat too much! When we're through, he says he isn't in the mood to go home yet. In my "draggy" state, I fail to pick up on the fact that this isn't his usual attitude. He's always in the midst of some project he wants to complete. I suggest, with very little enthusiasm, we go to "The Park". "The Park" refers to a place of great significance to the both of us. Home of laughing ducks, blue hands, and the Magic Feather (stories for another page!), and the place we spent many hours over the months talking about everything and anything; where we truly got to know each other. When we arrive, for his sake I attempt to liven up, chasing some ducks back into the water like a little kid. Too pooped to continue pretending to be awake, I plunk down on the park bench. Now, details get hazy! We're talking, he recreates the 1st day we met when he introduced himself as my husband at the read-thru at New Salem ...and then he's on one knee, asking me to be his wife. I was stunned. This WASN'T happening! Oh! But once that black velvet box opened and the ring of my youthful dreams appeared, I quickly revised that opinion!! An exquisate heart-shaped diamond brilliantly sparkled in a million and one different directions. Of course, the tears in my eyes may have been part of the shine. Who knows?! It's obvious, of course, that I said yes, or this page wouldn't be here! Originally, we set a Spring 2002 wedding date. But, thanks to encouragement from a wonderful couple from our church who told us ALL ABOUT how they went from dating to marriage in just 6 weeks with help from above *S* , well, I was challenged! Autumn has always been one of my favorite seasons, with the turning leaves and all. So, we changed the date to October 27th, 2001. The hardest part after that was convincing family I wasn't pregnant! |
