| The Mountain Called Stress | |||||||||
| Almost all of us, at some point in our lives, have found ourselves sitting in front of a mountain... A mountain of mile-high bills that need paid, wondering how in the world you'll EVER get them taken care of that month. Money is tight, the kids have outgrown their shoes, the car chooses this month to grow bald tires and a strange squealing ailment, the electric bill is overdue, you have some malady that a dose of Robutussin and Tylenol can't kick, and the roof has sprung a leak, right over your bed! | |||||||||
| How, oh how, oh HOW! will we ever get through? There's the usual needs-food, clothing, shelter. And then those other unexpected, unplanned for things. First comes tears. Then blame and anger with yourself and your spouse-maybe you should have walked to the store, taken up a friend's offer to take your oldest to ball practise, maybe you should have not used the air or heat, despite -10, or 110 degree weather (a few more layers of clothes, more or less, should have done the trick, right?!)... The whining begins: "Lord, why me?" | |||||||||
| Now, it isn't that you should IGNORE the problem-but how often do we turn to our faith in our Lord to see us through? Or think not of the negatives but of the positives? Yes, suprise things can be very tough. Unwanted. Difficult. But can you not still turn your eyes heaven-word and say,"Thank you, Father for giving so willingly your grace and love, and for giving me a saviour, and peace and hope for the future."? | |||||||||
| In Matthew Chapter 6, vs. 25-34, Jesus addresses the issue of stress! In verse 27, he asks the people "which one of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life?" Chances are, God does not want us to ignore our future, to walk thru life completely aimless, but these verses speak clearly that he does not want us to get bogged down, consumed, haunted in our dreams either!. | |||||||||
| Jesus says, in conclusion, "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the days own trouble be sufficiant for the day." Do you get the message? "Take it one day at a time"! | |||||||||
| Follow the heavenly instructions given in verse 33, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." Turn your cares over to Him, allow him to be the one in control, directing your path-and then-listen to Him! | |||||||||
