Common Name: Betta, Siamese Fighting Scientific Name: Betta Splendens Family: Belontiidae; Labyrinth Fish Origin: Thailand and other parts of South East Asia Ease of keeping: Beginner Aquarist Lifespan: 2 to 3 years Ph: 6.0 to 8.0 Temp: 76 to 80 degrees Farenheit Max Size: Female 2 inches; Male 2.75 inches Swimming Level: Middle/Top Breeding: N/A Diet: Bettas are omvnivores so as a staple of there diet feed them flakes. For a treat feed them brine shrimp and/or blood worms. Only feed the bloods worms once a week, because they can cause constipation. Tank Size: The minimum tank reccomended for one Betta is 2 gallons. People do succesfully keep Betta in less water than that, but I wouldn't reccomend that. Tankmates: Bettas have large fins so do not put fish that nip at fins in with them. Also, do not put betta in tanks with large finned fish, as they will nip at their fins. Don't keep your betta with other fish from the belontiidae family. Female bettas can be kept toghter in tanks, but do not have more than one male betta in a tank. If you put more than one male in a tank they will fight until one dies. The only time to keep a male and female betta toghter is to spawn them. Some good tankmates for betta are: Corydora, Otocinclus, African Dwarf Frogs, Danios, varities of tetra, snails, and ghost shrimp. Tank Decoration: N/A Behavior: N/A Other Info: N/A |
