I am a firm believer in suporting all of my lil sis actions, So i was both very proud and pleased when i recieved her poem via e-mail early this week. I think it's a lovely and beautifull poem writen by A very strong young lady serving her country with all her heart and all her pride. I hope you Cherish it as much as this Big sister dose. -D.Cook- -original message- I recieved an e-mail last week to enter an amateur poetry contest, and this is what I whipped up for it. Please let me know your thoughts on it, whether it has a chance to possibly be good enough to win a place. Thanks. IF ONLY THE WORLD COULD I am a United States Soldier, at 18 I dedicated myself to protect our country and our beliefs. Days spent in the rain and mud, memories of home, loved ones, & hope, being the only relief. I wear my uniform proudly, though many do not understand. We risk our own lives to help others in a far away land. My mother cries at the home when she hears of war, her baby must now go. Its quiet at night sometimes, my thoughts trail to my family, I love them, they know. A wave of my cap, as I board the plane to a far away place. As I write letters of hope, a tear, caresses my face. If only the world could know, to be a soldier every day and night. To wake each morning asking, "When will they end this fight?" Then the day when the bells of peace will ring. A sigh of relief, but no one knows what the future will bring. I am a United States Soldier, here with my brothers and sisters I stand. We wear our uniforms proudly, in hope that some day, the rest of the world may understand. To the mothers and fathers at home, holding our flag high, Never loose faith, never ask why. It is my duty, my HONOR, to gaurd our freedom, the weight of the world on our shoulders. There is nothing I am more proud to say then: "I am a United States Soldier." If only the world could know...
