You can call the guy who sold you Zeke if you really want to, but there's
nothing to be gained by it except maybe for you to vent a little. The coffin
break is old and healed . . . possibly even something that happened when he was a
little fart. A club foot is one that is deformed slightly, so that it stands more
upright than a normal foot. I have my farrier putting some corrective angles on
it, and it really doesn't cause a problem. The x-rays do show some bony changes
in the foot, however, and this could one day lead to lameness. That's why Zeke
probably wouldn't pass a vetting for a "normal" person! <VBG> Do what you want
to, honey, but if I was you, I'd try to find closure in my own heart and know
that you have learned from this, and Zeke is way happy and O.K. now. Now . . . as
to YOUR happiness - I have an excellent idea! How would you like to have your very own, purebred
Andalusian? . . . without paying for it? <VBG> I have an award winning Andy mare
here, in foal to my beloved, gorgeous Gillie. :-) The baby should be born the 1st
of June. Fred and I discussed advertising the baby now, as many Andalusian owners
do sell their foals in utero. If the foal is a colt, it's slightly more valuable
than if it's a filly, because you can breed a stallion many times a month,
bringing more money than one foal per year. We figure this baby, with it's
parents' awards and credential and good conformation, should be worth $7000
before it's born. Once a boy pops out, he's worth $9000. If a girl pops out,
she'll be worth about $8000. So . . . how would YOU like to be our little
grandbaby's new Mommy, in exchange for $7000 worth of Zeke's price? Your baby
will be ready to break in three years, and will bring you a lifetime of riding
pleasure, pride and joy!! We paid $6000 for Gillie when he was a weanling, seven
years ago, and last year I was offered $35,000 for him. :-) Of course, it wasn't
enough . . . <VBG> I had thought of keeping Little Gillie or Little Tango and
raising him or her for myself, but once Zeke stole into my heart, THAT dream
jumped right out the window! :-) I could even raise your little bundle of joy
here for a while, and chop his/her board off my payments to YOU, until you were
ready for him/her there where you are. I have another baby being born a month
later, and figured I would let the two wee ones grow up together, which is best
for babies. Great idea, huh?
So, whaddya say? Want a drop dead gorgeous Andalusian? You could still buy a
cheaper horse to have fun on this Spring, and I'll throw money at you as fast as
I can, just to help with that project. But wouldn't it be nice to have a purebred
Spanish horse in your barn? I thought so! :-)
Let me know what you think . . .
Diana
Comment: I had asked her if she thought I should contact Zeke's previous owner to see what he knew about the club foot and the coffin bone break. Also, I'd like to know how she figures this foal isn't going to cost me anything? First, she doesn't bring the price down for me AT ALL (unlike I am doing with my sale of Zeke to her) and secondly, she wants me to pay for training. In the meantime, she expects me to be able to afford yet another horse!
