Robbie has completed 200 Hyperbaric Dives. We go to a facility in Toronto called Hyperbaric Medical Centre of Toronto. They are located in North York and have a very knowledgeable and helpful staff. I was not to keen on getting into the chamber and they were terrific and helped me get over my anxiety. Each session of Hyperbaric brought new changes for Robbie. Some of the changes that we saw were: W Sitting, Pointing, 4 point crawl, pull to stand, some speech- Mom, Dad, Juice, In, Out, Hi, and I. We hear many new sounds now and he comes up with new words regularly. He holds his bottle/cup, he feeds himself. He is starting to use a fork and spoon. He turns pages on the books, waves, puts shapes in the right spaces on shape sorter toys. We are now concentrating on balance, He attends M.E.D.E.K. therapy every week. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy--100% oxygen delivered under increased atmospheric pressure in order to force more oxygen into the bloodstream and all bodily fluids. Thought to repair some of the areas of the brain that were dormant but not totally dead. Has been known to increase responsiveness/alertness and motor/muscle control. Each hyperbaric session is called a dive. Each dive consists of approximately 15 minutes of pressurization to 1.75 ata, 60 minutes at depth, and then 6 minutes to return to sea level. You do not actually go underwater. You are in a chamber in a medical facility with Doctors and specially trained hyperbaric technicians. An excellent place for information on this and other therapies is |
